REGULAR MEETINGFEBRUARY 22, 2010 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 09-10 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br /> COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF $40,000 <br /> FROM CENTRAL SERVICES FUND 222 <br /> TO INSTALL EMISSION CONTROL <br /> DEVICES ON CITY DIESEL TRUCKS <br /> <br />Councilmember Varner, Chairperson, Public Works and Property Vacation Committee, <br />reported that this committee held a Public Hearing on this bill this afternoon and voted to <br />send it to the full Council with a favorable recommendation. <br /> <br />Mr. Matthew Chelbowski, Director, Central Services Division, 1045 W. Sample Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br /> <br />Mr. Chelbowski advised that the City of South Bend has received a grant of $40,000 <br />from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for the purchase and <br />installation of particulate catalysts on 30 of our diesel power trucks. The catalysts will <br />reduce the emissions from these truck by 70%. The attached ordinance is a request to <br />fund the purchase from Fund 222 and reimburse the fund with the grant. <br /> <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this bill, Councilmember Dieter made a motion for favorable <br />recommendation to full Council concerning this bill. Councilmember Oliver Davis <br />seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 10-10 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br /> COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> APPROPRIATING $125,000.00 FROM <br /> THE NONREVERTING LOSS <br /> RECOVERY FUND (#227) IN 2010 FOR <br /> VARIOUS EXPENDITURES <br /> <br />Councilmember Dieter made a motion to continue this bill until the March 8, 2010 <br />meeting of the Council and refer back to the Community and Economic Development <br />Committee.
