The program will be offered, on a call-in basis only. “Operation Releaf set record
numbers last year with over 82,000 cubic yards collected and almost 30,000 cubic yards more
than the previous year,” stated Mayor Luecke. “South Bend residents did a great job with leaf
clean-up last year and we were able to recycle all of these leaves and avoid adding them to area
landfills thanks to our program at Organic Resources.”
The Division of Streets is planning another aggressive road improvement program for
2010. According to Sam Hensley, Director of Streets, “before our crews begin our in-house
paving and repairs this year, we would like to complete the Spring ReLeaf program which is an
important part of South Bend’s Clean City effort. Call-in pickup is the most efficient means for
leaf pickup and helps to conserve fuel and keep down costs for labor and vehicle maintenance.”
All residents are encouraged to rake their loose leaves to the curb, and then call the
Division of Street at 235-9244 for pick-up.
See important guidelines on the next page.
-more-
