0 0 o <br /> x x <br /> 1865 <br /> BILL NO. 18-09 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4702-18 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br /> INDIANA,DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 25—31 <br /> AS FA WORKER AWARENESS WEEK IN SOUTH BEND,INDIANA <br /> GA" the South Bend Common Council notes that National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW) <br /> is a week of action to raise awareness about farmworker issues in our communities; and <br /> GX" this year marks the 19th Annual Farmworker Awareness Week which provides opportunities to <br /> learn about farmworker conditions and to honor their important contributions to society; and <br /> 6)&;m4 85% of our fruits and vegetables are handpicked by an estimated 2-3 million men,women, and <br /> children working in farm fields throughout the United States. Farms are in every state yet farmworkers remain <br /> largely invisible and continue to live and work in horrific conditions. Farm work is the third most dangerous job <br /> in the United States; and <br /> 6A)" this year Farmworker Awareness Week coincides with Cesar Chavez's birthday on March 31St <br /> Cesar Chavez dedicated himself to non-violent organizing for fair wages, safer working conditions and dignity <br /> for the men,women and children who work in the fields. <br /> �/�.x , <br /> Section I. On behalf of the residents of the City of South Bend,the South Bend Common Council is proud <br /> to honor all of the thousands of men,women and children who plant,cultivate,harvest and process our agricultural <br /> products throughout the State of Indiana and throughout the United States. <br /> Section II. The Common Council hereby declares the week of March 25 — 31, 2018 as Farmworker <br /> Awareness Week in South Bend, Indiana, and calls upon everyone to reflect upon the tireless efforts of Cesar <br /> Chavez whose dedication and commitment to raise awareness has helped bring justice to those who toil in the <br /> fields. <br /> Section III.
