Safety issues for staff, <br />the public and the animals all need to be <br />addressed. <br /> <br />Mr. Farney said that the new facility will be <br />9,400 sq. ft. 5,200 sq. ft. is in the existing T- <br />shaped building and 4,200 sq. ft of new runs <br />will be added to it. The renovated building <br />and new portions will save dramatically on <br />heating costs. <br /> <br />Mr. Downes noted the high cost per square <br />foot. He asked if it is comparable to the cost <br />for Fort Wayne. Mr. Farney said that it is. <br /> <br />Mr. Downes asked if the project will be put <br />out for bid. Ms. Toppel responded that it will <br />be bid by the Board of Public Works. <br /> <br />Mr. Downes asked about the future of the <br />current facility on Olive St. Ms. Toppel said <br />it hasn’t been decided, but they will use it for <br />storage for the time being. <br /> <br />Mr. Downes wondered if the Commission <br />will be asked to acquire and rehab the Olive <br />Street facility at some time in the future. Mr. <br />Gibney responded that the building belongs <br />to the Park Department. He does not believe <br />the Commission would have further <br />responsibility for it. <br /> <br />Ms. Spivey asked if the Olive St. building is <br />on the Federal Registry.
