566' <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENTA petition for the paving of Vassar Ave., from College St., to <br />Brookfield St., was received. This petition was turned over to the Engineering Depart- <br />ment for investigation. <br />The plans for widening of the driveway in front of the garage at #910 S. La Fayette <br />St., owned by J. E. Hamilton were approved. The contractor on this job is R. D. Edwards <br />COPY OF VACATION RESOLUTION NG. 2503 <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC 1NORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is <br />desirable to vacate the following <br />ALLEY NORTH OF FASSNACHT AVENUE from the West line of Brookfield <br />Street to the East line of the alley West of Brookfield Street, <br />also: <br />From the Wiest line of the alley West of Brookfield Street to the <br />East line of Johnson Street., <br />The Following property may be injuriously or beneficially effected by such vacation: <br />Lots 231, 2322 2332 234, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, 241 and 242 Linden Place Addition <br />Notice of this resolution shall be published on the lst day of November and on the 8th <br />day of November, 1940 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and Weekly Mirror. <br />This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 18th day of November, 1940 at 10:00 A. Ewing Ave., be made a preferential street <br />prohibiting all transport truck traffic was received, this petition was turned over <br />to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and report. <br />Mr. Ernest Idiiller$ Traffic Engineer reports to the Board that he has made a survey <br />of the space required for bus loading and unloading -zones, and reconmlends that 60, <br />be allowed for each bus and 301 for each additional bus to load and unload passengers <br />within a zone at one time. The distance of 601 to be measured from the back side of <br />the intersecting street walks. <br />The Board authorized Mr. Miller to notify the bus company of this recommendation, <br />and instruct them.,to install their signs accordingly. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: The Indiana Theater, Inc., presented plans foam a marquee and a <br />sign, containing etters 24" in height for the Indiana Theater Building located at <br />826 W..Indiana Ave,, The Plans call for the walls or exterior portion on the marquee <br />to extend a total of 40" in height, which plan is now approved by the Board, and the, <br />Board now grants written permission for the construction of said marquee in accordance <br />with the plans submitted for approval, which written permission is ordered filed with <br />the Building Department. <br />The following letter was received from L. M..Coffman, 415 E. Victoria St.: <br />"I desire to bring to,your attention a condition which effects many patrons who <br />ride the city busses. <br />I notice nearly 1/3 of these people have to stand after paying their fare-, due to <br />lack of seating space. <br />Why do you not insist the Bus Transportation Company put on larger busses <br />or run extra busses. We are entitled to a seat when we pay to ride. <br />Another thing I wish to bring to your attention is this: There are no rear <br />signs on these busses and passengers are forced to go to the front to find <br />the name of the streets they traverse. <br />L. Victoria St.," <br />ich letter was turned over to the Northern Indiana Transit Co. <br />Mr. Charles Hagedorn reports that a driver on the South Michigan St., line when <br />uestioned above lack of transportation facilities on the South Michigan St., line <br />dvised that the complaints should be made to the Board pf Works. This statement was <br />ade loud enough that any of the passengersin the bus were able to hear it. <br />The Northern Indiana Transit Co., were made aware of this remark. <br />0 <br />0 <br />• <br />
