<br />STREET DEPARTMENT: The Street Commissioner, Tony Zmudzinski ,.Tas present and
<br />business pretaining to his department was discussed.
<br />¶?r. Fri. 'if. Waterson and Mr. R. R. Smith, of the Northern Indiana Ry. Co.,
<br />appeared before the Board, and upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
<br />carried, the Northern Indiana Ry. Co. Inc., holders of the bus franchise on the
<br />Portage Ave., line, is hereby authorized and agrees to change its route on the
<br />following streets. Instedd of going North on Portage to I:larquette and then 'Nest
<br />on IT.arquette to Wilbur and North on Wilbur to Portage then South on Portage,
<br />beginning on the 15th of February, the new route will be North on Portage to
<br />Bergen, East on Bergen to Beverly Pl., South on Beverly Pl. to Wcodlawn, lest
<br />on °doodlaim to Portage and return on Portage.
<br />The Board also authorized the '1\ortPern Indiana Ry. Inc., to operate.a bus,
<br />twice daily, which bus will leave Logan St. at Mishawaka Ave., at 7:25 A.M.,
<br />travel 'dest on 11ishawaka Ave., to Beyer Ave., across the Sample St. bridge and
<br />West on Sample St. to Iilain St., north on i.iain St. to Bronson St., West on Bronson
<br />St., to La Fayette St., South on LaFayette St., to Plant of the Studebaker
<br />Corporation, and a bus to leave Plant �2 at 5:10 P.I.I. in the evening and reverse
<br />the same route. This authorized operation to be for the purpose of serving
<br />River Park residents who work at Studebakers.
<br />BUILDING DEPART-1ENT: In acco-dance �d;ith the action of the Board at a Special
<br />meeting on January 18, 1940, the dr7T cleaning, machinery was installed at #217
<br />E. Jefferson Ave., and preliminary tests made. After making an inspection_ of
<br />the equipment and plant, Clem S,ith, State Fire Marshall, I.Ir. Bailey, Tor. i11-o.ld.
<br />and TIr. Loomis appeared before the Board. 1;Ir. Smith stated that an inspection.
<br />had been made and that the building and plant,met with their approval and that a
<br />permit would be issued. All previous recommendations made by his department had
<br />been complied with, with the exception cf the construction of a concrete fire wall,
<br />• which, after inspection of the installed equipment, he deemed unnecessary.
<br />Mr. Rodgers of the Indiana Inspection Bureau was present, and the effect of
<br />the installation of this equipment on the fire insurance rates was discussed.
<br />,The Board hereby concurs ;ith the decision of the State Fire 1,11arshall, and
<br />authorizes the Building Commissioner to issue a permit for the operation of the
<br />plant, when the State Fire 11arshallts permit has been received.

<br />January. - --

<br />Distler Plumbing & Heating Co., 71Visha,:iaka, Ind., was presented and ordered filed.
