�05. <br />MEETING--NOVEMBER 27, 1939 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday November 2 <br />v � 7, <br />1939, at 9:00 A.142. All members were present. Payrolls of the various departments in <br />the amount of $6,257.51 and claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $334.51 <br />were approved and ordered paid: <br />General Tire Co. Stuhmer was approv <br />STREET LIGHTING: Mr. Qualls was present and Orlo Deahl, attorney for the Indiana & <br />• <br />Michigan Electric Company was present and the street lighting contract was discussed. <br />The engineeer reported the receipt of a report submitted by the National Board of <br />Fire Underwriters regarding the condition of the public water supply system and certain <br />ire stations. TheBoard ordered the report placed on file and authorized the engineer <br />to send copies to the Chief of the Fire Department and the Supt. of the Water Works. <br />The question has been raised as to what the Board intended to do with Chapin Street <br />pavement after the street car rails were removed. <br />It was moved by lair. Driggs, seconded by Mr. Beamer and unanimously carried that as <br />soon as conditions permit in 1940 and as soon as the W.P.A. street resurfacing and im- <br />• <br />provement project can be started that the street car rails on Chapin Street shall be Sol( <br />to the highest bidder and that the funds derived <br />from the sale of said rails be used in <br />defraying the cost of repaving and resurfacing Chapin Street where necessary and said <br />resurfacing and repairing shall be done without cost to the abutting property owners <br />under a W.P.A. project, utilitzing the funds derived from the sale of street car rails <br />for that purpose: this ilm?provement being contingent upon the receipt cf Six and 75%100 <br />($6.75) Dollars per man per month for each man on N.P.A. from the Portage Township <br />rustee for W.P.A. purposes during 1940.1' <br />A petition for sidewalk on the north side of Horne Court between 28th street and the <br />first alley east of 28th Street was referred to the engineer for investigation and repori <br />• <br />The complaint regarding the condition of the sidewalk on the southeast corner of Mair <br />and Bartlett Streets submitted by <br />Mrf <br />. Beamer was referred to the Engineering Department <br />for investigation and report. <br />The engineer submitted a verbal - report on the claim for damages to the property at <br />203 S. Scott Street caused by the W.P.A. sewer project. The W.P.A. were authorized to <br />repair the property and upon investigation, it was reported that the property owner was <br />satisfied. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT.- Mr. Zmudzinski was present and matters pertaining to his department <br />were discussed. <br />• (Meeting adjourned at 12:00 Noon. <br />0 <br />
