MEETING--SEPTEIVTBER 25, 1939 <br />Regular meeting of the <br />Board of Public orks was held on Monday, Septeriber <br />25, 1939 <br />at 10:00 A.v1. All members <br />were present. r,�inutes of the previous meeting were read <br />and <br />approved. :payrolls of the <br />var-ous departments in the amount of $7,836.44 and claims <br />of <br />the following suppliers in <br />the amount of ?)221.06 were approved and ordered paid: <br />Peterson Battery & Ign. Huckleberry, salary 75.00 <br />✓ An agreement between Reed Brothers of T: ishawal1--a, Indiana, and the City of <br />South Bend <br />for the rental of 1340 feet of sidewalk fora'ns at .05 rer foot at a total price <br />of dl�67.00 <br />monthly was entered into. <br />Mr. Williams _Made a resort on the claim of dwnages alleged to have been caused <br />by <br />the city in permitting water to run into the building owned by the National 1-Mill <br />Supply <br />Company at the s.uthwest intersect -on of IaTonroe and Carroll Streets. A thorough <br />inves- <br />tigation made by members of his department does not indicate that the city was <br />in any <br />way -responsible for any loss that miuht have occurred. Therefore, the claim <br />of <br />$2,116.62 was denied and the National dill Supply Company was so advised by 131r. <br />Reamer. <br />'� T` r v /' I �r 1 n <br />STREET DE-ARTr"E�4T: stir. Zmudzinski was cresei.t and matters pertaining to his <br />department <br />were discussed. 1r. Zmudzinski reported that street signs had been erected at <br />the <br />intersection of Catalpa and Garst Streets and that the signs had been changed <br />on Angela <br />Avenue. <br />A petition signed bT property owners in Janowski's 2nd and 3rd additions <br />to the city <br />lof South Bend recuest_ng that an G lley be opened between said additions and <br />lengthof <br />said additions was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation. <br />The plan for the nrcpesed sewer for Drewryts Ltd. Inc. to be connected to <br />the _ublic <br />sewer on Elwood rvenue was approved. <br />Plan for thepro-posed driveway at the Johnson Oil ;refinery station at East <br />Colfax <br />Avenue at Syca_ore Street was approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTI'rE1-T REPAIRS: I. X. Lower being the low bidder was authorized to paint Centra <br />-'ire Station and the canopy of l o. 2 ,- ire Station. Bruno Luzny cc Son, being the low <br />bidder, was authorized to paint No. 4, 1,eo. 6 and ao. 8 'mire Stations. Fir. G. E. Verhost <br />was authorized to paint No. 7 fire station. Thomas L. TIickey was authorized to repair <br />the rear wall of Central Fire Station and the carpenter work on No. 7 Fire Station. <br />The Indiana Hardware and !in Shop tiaras authorized to repair and reconstruct the Central <br />Fire Station and #7 Fire Station eves. <br />The Clem.; of the Board reported that quit-c]_aim deed received from David L. <br />Guilfoyle and Catherine E. Guilfoyle, his wife, for the dedication_of an alley was re- <br />corded in Book 314 at page 311 of the records of the Recorder of St. Joseph County, Ind. <br />Continuation Certificate on contractor's bond of Axel E.
