474 <br />MEETING--JULY 10, 1939 <br />/Regular meeting of the Board of _Public Works was held at the <br />on Monday, July 10.. 1939, at 9:00 A.M. P.A. Fund or Street Department I-10 (`,f. P.. ) account wer <br />approved and ordered paid: <br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. 41.86 A. Vd. Davis 9.66 <br />White Consolidated, Inc. 320.00 <br />STREET LIGHTING: An analysis for lighting facilities for the city of South Bend and <br />also an itemized list of expenditures for lighting itemized by months -for the six <br />monthperiodof the year were submitted by Mr. Qualls. <br />Mr. Qualls made a report on the petition which had been previously filed requests <br />a light on Dayton at Caroline and Robinson intersections. He recommended that a 2500 <br />lumen light be located at the end of Dayton Street at Robinson. Mr. Qualls was ordere <br />to have this light installed. <br />VMr. Qualls was also directed to install a 1000 lumen light in thealley west of <br />Main Street between Marion and I:Iadison Streets. <br />jMr. John E. Probst, heating engineer for the S�.Joseph Heating Company submitted <br />a report on the estimated cost of heating the city hall with Central Plant steam. The <br />Board, in considering the report, were of the opinion that it would be necessary to <br />obtain an a-propriation covering the cost ofheating by this particular method before <br />any definite agreement could be made. The engineer was authorized to consult with <br />some plumbing and heating contractors relative to the cost of improving the existing <br />heabIng system within the building. The Board estimated the additional cost of janito <br />service and cleaning at approximately the additional cost of Central steam. <br />Tr. Clark of the SouthSide Awning Company presented plans for a proposed canopy <br />for John Parker at 1152 N. Main Street. He was referred to the Building Department <br />with the suggestion that he classify the canopy as either a sign or awning and be <br />go erned by the ordinance covering the same. <br />CEMETERY DEPARTI4-ENT: Mr. McNabb was present and made his financial report for the !as <br />half of une, 1939, showing receipts of $62.00. <br />STREET DEPARTTEN1T: Due to numerous requests to cut weeds on vacant lots in the city <br />limits, this matter was discussed. It was decided that the Street Department would <br />endeavor to cut the weeds in the parkway area and on corner lots where a traffic hazar, <br />is created. <br />Mr. Zmudzinski was authorized to have a large sign made for the Street Department <br />/An order writing machine which formerly belonged to the City Clerk's office was <br />transferred to the Street Department for their use. <br />/The Engineer submitted plans, profiles and specifications for the general repair <br />of sidewalks and curbs in the city of South Bend, which were approved by the Board and <br />ordered placed on file. Improvement Resolution No. 2502 was presented and adopted by <br />the Board for the letting of contract for the general repair of sidewall[s and curbs in <br />the city of South Bend. (see files for copy of resolution) <br />�he Clerk of the Board was ordered to advertise the same in accordance with law, <br />the same to be advertised two times one week apart on the 12th and 19th of July. Pulic <br />hearing will be had on said Resolution on July 24, 1939, at 9:00 A.1% <br />The Engineer submitted plans, profiles and specifications for the resurfacing of <br />East Jefferson Boulevard from the west line of Eddy Street to the east line of Greenlavn <br />Avenue, which plans and specifications were approved by the Board and ordered filed. <br />The Board adopted preliminary Improvement Resolution No. 2501 for the resurfacing of <br />Jefferson Boulevard from the west line of Eddy Street to the east line ofGreenlawn <br />Avenue,, ( See files for copy of resolution) <br />The Clerk of the Board was ordered to advertise the same in accordance w_th law, <br />the same to be advertised two times one week apart on the 19th and 26th days of July. <br />Public hearing will be had on said Resolution on August 71 1939, at 9:OQ A.m. <br />Meeting adjourned at 11:15 A.M. <br />AT T : ,d_ <br />CLI;'RK <br />BOARD TjF PUBLIC IN <br />• <br />C: <br />0 <br />0 <br />• <br />
