• <br />t <br />441 <br />IVIEETING--1YARCH 13, 1939 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public V1orks was held on Monday, TvIarch 13, 1939, <br />at 9.00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous n-ieeting were read and <br />approved. Due to recent legislative action, it will be impossible to install <br />additional street lit hts. The city must absorb t'ie cost of traffic signals on state <br />routes. J <br />A quit-clai-.l deed frog! Tiay H. Huff Arrowsmith to the 'lunicipal City of Mouth Bend <br />covering certain land on Illinois Street was received by the Board. The Clerk was <br />authorized to have the deed recorded. <br />/A letter was received from. Mrs. Noble zLeller of 1103 Oakland Street, requesting <br />the erection of a "No Dumping" sign on the vacant lot next to her residence. This mat- <br />ter was referred to the Street Commissioner. <br />✓Mr. Zmudzinski, the Street Co=issioner, was present and matters pertaining to his <br />department were discussed. Mr. Z-rudzinski was authorized to purchase one-half ton of <br />steel for the street sweeper. <br />• 'f The Board authorized the purchase by the Street Department of mixed aggregate from <br />the Asrhalt Products Co. for r)atching streets in a sufficient amount to determine by <br />experiment the effectiveness of this product. `1_'he Board authorized the purchase of <br />asphalt primer from the Standard Oil Company. <br />The hazardous condition at the intersection of 1.1ain and 7-fashington Streets created. <br />by the streetcar tracks was discussed. The engineer was authorized to investigate the <br />cost . of a WPA project to remove the tracks and repair the intersection. <br />- heSecretary of the -'oard of 'Works and Saf et;= was authorized to obtain a I?otary <br />Commission. <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />CJ <br />/TdIr. llooma`ba was present and the rrocedure followed in obtaining gasoline for use of �I <br />the Building Depart_-:ent inspectors on official business was discussed. The Clerk was <br />authorized to advise i:r. ;Toomaw to <k�ve all employees in is department obtain their <br />allotment of gasoline at the 1Jater works Garage instead of at the Police Departr:_ent. <br />Continuation Certificate covering Excavation Bond in favor of -Nalter J. Braunsdorf <br />& Son. was approved by the Board. <br />This beincr the date set, hearing was held n the assessment roll showing the award <br />of damages and the assessr.nent of benefits in the .Natter of vacation of alley south of <br />Oakside Street from High Street to the north and south center line of the East 2 of Sec. <br />24, Township 37 N, Range 2 East, same be'_ng Vacation Resolution No. 2491. <br />/In the move naried assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remon- <br />strances were f ilea., the Clerk of the -'oard submitted proofs of pub_lication of notices <br />and that the easer.lents necessary for utility service had been recorded by the board, and <br />the same were found sufficient, and. the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots <br />and parcels of land have been benefited and damaged in the ar ounts shown on said roll. <br />The Board, therefore, decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares <br />same in all t hings ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the pro- <br />ceedings closed and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefits assessments <br />from the various property owners so benefited and all-•roceedings had with reference to <br />said alley vacation are hereby sustained. <br />f <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award <br />of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of alleysouth of <br />Irvington Avenue from alley east of-:rskine Blvd. to high Street, also alley east of <br />Erskine Blvd. from Irvington Ave. to Eciu an Street, sa-_ie being; Vacation Resolution #2492 <br />" In the above nar:-ed assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remon <br />strances were filed, t__e Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of ~_ublication of notices <br />and that the easements necessary for utility service had been recorded by the board, and <br />the same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots <br />and Uarcels of land have been benefited and dacaged in the mounts shown on said roll. <br />The Board, therefore, decides to tale final action on said assessment roll and declares <br />same in all things ratified, confi_r jied and approved without modification and the pro- <br />ceedings closed,and the alley vacated upon receipt of the a.nount of benefit assessments <br />from the various` property owners.so benefited and all proceedings had with reference to <br />said alley vacation Ore hereby sustained. <br />
