Newland Company 58.00 <br />✓An estimate was received from the Bock Welding Company for the repair of the <br />boiler for No. 4 Hose House at approximately $4G.00. The Board authorized the repair <br />Ito be made. <br />The Fire Chief reported that the eave-trough on No. 8 Hose House was in bad con- <br />dition° and the Board ordered that J. C. Lauber Company who recently installed partially <br />'new troughs be notified to make the necessary repair. <br />'The Board received a request from Mr. L. R. Whiteman, owner of the Whiteman build- <br />ing on South Michigan Street to grade the alley south of that building. Instructions <br />weregiven to the Clerk to notify Mr. Weer to have this done. <br />)Mr. Quallssubmitted a report of the existing condition in the vicinity of Calvert <br />and Olive Streets which was brought to -our attention by Dr. Policki. He recommended <br />that a 1000 lumen light be installed at Calvert in the vicinity of Kaley or Meade <br />(Streets. The Board requested him to install these two lights. <br />The Indiana Michigan Electric Company petitioned the Board for permission to instal <br />,underground duct lines across Lincoln Way West and LaSalle, in accordance with their <br />blue print No. 138-148. Mr. Qualls having investigated this matter, recommended that th <br />I petition be granted. The Board approved and the Indiana Michigan Electric Company was <br />Aso notified. <br />Mr. Qualls reported having received a complaint from owners of property at 1242 <br />'Diamond Avenue that a light was an annoyance and asked to have the light painted black. <br />The Board, after having considered this matter requested Mr. Qualls to have the lipht <br />turned out entirely,temporarily, subject to re-ifighting if objection from other neighbors <br />i is f o great. <br />The Indiana Michigan Electric Company submitted a request for permission to re -con- <br />struct existing manholes at Lafayette and Washington Streets and also on the south side <br />of Washington at the alley east of Lafayette, in accordance witlidra.wing No. 138-154. <br />After discussing this matter with Mr. Qualls, the Board approved the petition and the <br />Indiana Michigan Electric Company was so notified. <br />The Board received bids as follows covering the construction of a Hose Tower at <br />No. 9 Hose House. The Board found upon considering these bids that not sufficient funds <br />its available and that they would have to reject all bids: Sollitt Construction Company, <br />�1,945; J. F. Christman, $1,585; H. G. Christman Co., 41,368; and Hay-�veaver Company, <br />�1,638. <br />/The Grand Trunk Railway System reported that their Superintendent had been requester <br />to keep the crossing at Twyckenham Drive in best possible repair. They called attention <br />to the fact that they would like to have the Street Department bring the approaching , <br />pavement to the track level. This matter was referred to Mr. Anderson and Mr. Zi_llmer <br />for attentionand investigation. <br />Continuation Certificate for Surety Bond in favor of Nieszgodski Brothers was ap- <br />proved by the Board. <br />,/Continuation Certificates of Excavation Bonds in favor of Wt. Otterstine & Son and <br />C. A. Jordan Company were approved by the Board. <br />�A representative ofthe Postal Telegraph Company was present and explained the clock <br />being sold by his Company at a price of $14.75. After considering the merits.of the <br />clock, the Board authorized the purchase of one for the City Hall lobby. <br />Meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.
