PW Regular meeting was held on Monday, February 21, 1938. All members were pres- ent. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. -- Claims from the following suppliers in the amount of -$1145.02 were approved -and ordered paid. Co. 82.50 Gill-yorn Chevrolet Co. .30 Willette Service Station 64.00 '/ A communication was received from the Yardmaster of the New York- Central Rail- way Company advising that their Lincoln Way Vest crossing at the brewery is being inspected daily and that if the condition is found to need repairs they will be made praptly. ✓ Mr. Anderson submitted his report with reference to the question brought up by Mr. FrankMurray that thO- City join with the County in a W. P. h, program for the repair of bridges. Mr. Anderson`s report is as follows, which upon regular motion seconded and carried was ordered placed on file: Gentlemen: At your meeting February 14, the advisability of the City joining with the County in a W. P. A. program for the repair of bridges was referred to me for a report. There has been appropriated in the 1938 budget $4,500.00 for the repair of the Colfax Avenue and Sample Street bridges. Since the budget was adopted the State Highway Commission has assumed jurisdiction: -.of the Colfax Avenue bridge, leaving only the Sample Street bridge to be repaired out of this appropriation. It is my opinion that it would take all of the $4,500.00 to clean and paint the bridge, repair hand rails and masonry, if the work is let by contract. Al the present time the City has no funds available, in its treasury and Mr. Zillmer has informed me that due to the recession, the City's income will probably be considerably less than that estimated. The president has requested business and industry to do everthing to relieve relief loassr by providing employment in the regular channels. If this request has merit it would probably.be.better to use the money approp- riated and let contracts for the :ample Street bridge and thus pr6vide some work for those not on relief and perhaps assist in keeping them off of relief. Anderson_ City Civil Engineer ✓ A petition signed by 14 residents and property owners from Stude- baker and Birdsell Streets requested the grading of an alley running north and south between these two streets from LaPorte Avenue to Fassnacht Street. This petition was referred to the Street Department for attention. A petition signed by 24 residents was presented to the Board requesting that two electrical street lights be installed, one on Broofkield at the corner of Humboldt and Brookfield Street and the other at the corner of the alley at the beginAng of thel300 block on North Brookfield.
