-3 3 o <br />MEETING November 8, 1937 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, November 8, 1937, <br />at 9.45 A. M. Electric Co. <br />98.94- <br />Gafill Oil Co. <br />552.79 <br />A_ communication from the Mayor was received <br />requesting investigation <br />of the <br />use of City owned cars for private <br />purposes. <br />The Board, after carefully <br />checking <br />City owned cars under its jurisdiction, <br />found <br />that no abuses were being committed <br />on such cars and the Mayor was so <br />notified. <br />Mr. Millbern of the Sinclair Refining Company presented plans for the <br />construction of a filling station at the northwest corner of LaSalle Avenue and <br />Main Street. After having been carefully gone over by the City Engineer, it was <br />decided that he investigate the matter further on the ground and make his <br />recommendations'at the next meeting. <br />Mr. George Bachman was present at the meeting of the Board with reference to <br />communication received by him from the Board requesting that the curb at the north- <br />west -corner of 32nd Street and Mishawaka Avenue be replaced. After discussing this <br />matter with Mr. Bachman, and he being entitled to an entrance to his property, it <br />was decided by regular motion that he be ordered to replace the curb on 32nd Street <br />and put up such sign as will warn the public not to drive across the abandoned <br />driveway. <br />/ Mr. R. R. Smith and Mr. W. W. Waterson of the Northern Indiana Railway Company <br />were present at the meeting of the Board and exhibited a map showing location of <br />homes along Portage Avenue north of Keller Street and proposed to extend the <br />operation of the busses from the present terminal along Portage Avenue to Marquette <br />Boulevard, thence west to Wilber Street, thence north on Wilber Street to Portage <br />Avenue and return. After discussing this matter, permission was given the Northern <br />Indiana Railway Company to operate in this manner for a period of ninety days, with <br />the understanding that at the end of that time either the Board or the Northern <br />Indiana Railway Company may terminate this agreement. It being further understood <br />that on special occasions, when the Railway Company is justified in doing so, they <br />are to have the privilege of operating their buses on Portage Avenue as far as the <br />cemeterys. <br />The meeting adjourned at 10:30 A.
