323 <br />MEETING September 7. 1937 <br />0 <br />CJ <br />• <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Tuesday, September 7, <br />19371 at 10:30 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of $3,109.83, from the following suppliers were approved <br />and ordered paid; also, payroll of several departments amounting to 2,127.01. <br />Indiana & Mich.Elec. Woodruff & Sons <br />29.40 <br />J Father Corcoran, pastor of St. Joseph Church, made a request that the alley <br />running East & West from Hill to St. Louis Boulevard, between Colfax and LaSalle,, <br />be blocked off during playtime and the Street Department was ordered to furnish <br />two barricades to meet the request. <br />This being the date set for hearing of Vacation resolution 2489, same being <br />vacation_ of a certain parcel on the South side of Western Avenue, from the West <br />line of Cherry Street to Kosciusko Stree-t, the following interebted parties being <br />_present: <br />Mr. Fredericks representing the New York Central Ry. Co. <br />Rudolph. Paege <br />Harvey Sanner <br />i Paul. Butler representing Singer Mfg. Co. <br />A Representative of N. J. I. & I. Ry. <br />There being no objections and none having been filed, and the Board being <br />advised of this fact, Vacation resolution was approved and referred to the ngi- <br />neering Department for the purpose of making up final estimate of benefits and <br />damages. <br />JA request was revie:jed from 0. C. Denniston, James F. Casmier, and,the Union <br />Trust Company, requesting respread of assessments affecting Lot 50 in Jackson's <br />j proposal sub -division, which was referred to the Engineering Department. <br />1 1 A communication was received from the Oliver Farm Equipment Company, advising <br />that they would promptly comply with the Board's request to repair sidewalksin <br />front of their plant on Chapin Street. A copy of their letter was ordered sent to <br />Councilman Max Palicki. <br />A petition was presented signed by six property owners requesting that. a sower` <br />be laid and water furnished on Warren Street from Calvert Street to Indiana Avenue. <br />They matter upon regular motion, seconded and carried was scheduled for later con- <br />sideration. <br />Mr. Qualls recommended that a 2,500-lumen light be placed at Humboldt and Meade <br />Streets, due to length of blocks in this vicinity. The Board concurred in this re- <br />commendation and ordered Mr. Qualls to instruct the I. & M. Electric Company to in- <br />stall the same. <br />/Mr. Qualls recommended that a 4,000-1umen light be placed at Colfax Avenue, and <br />Esther Street, due to darkness and the volume of traffic. He also recommended the <br />installation of a 4,000-lumen light at Colfax and Jacob Street, where a number of <br />accidents have occurred. The Board concurred in both of these recommendations and <br />ordered Mr. Qualls to instruct the I. & M. Electric Company to install the same. <br />f Mr. Longenecker, City Sexton, submitted his report of the activities of the <br />Cemetery Department for the month of August, showing $334.00 collections made,of <br />which $220.00 was for perpetual care. This report is on file in the office of the <br />Board of Public Works. <br />'Continuation certificate of Excavation Bond in favor of Goheen Plumbing & <br />• Heating Company, was approved by the Board. <br />
