303 <br />The purpose of the meeting having been accomplished, adjournment' was had <br />at 10:30 A. M. <br />• BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />ATTEST: Clerk <br />MEETING June 1, 1937 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Tuesday, June 1, 1937 <br />at 10:45 A. M. Mr. Woodward was absent. <br />Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of $1,874.301 from the following suppliers, were approved <br />and ordered paid. <br />Indiana Bell Telephone Company .35 Artcraft Printers $16.00 <br />Indiana Bell Telephone Company 232.87 Zeltner hardware 87.86 <br />No. Ind. Co. 6.54 <br />Hamilton Body Shop 18.25 Business Systems, Inc. .35 <br />Motor Service & Parts, Inc. 2.76 Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Co. 3.55 <br />South Bend Auto Products 8.35 South Bend Foundry Co. 78.00 <br />✓ This being the date set, hearing was had on the Assessment Roll showing <br />awards of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of <br />alley north of Sample Street from the alley west of LaFayette Boulevard to the <br />west line of Garst's Addition, and 2nd alley west of LaFayette Boulevard from the <br />south line of Tutt Street projected west to Sample Street, same being Vacation <br />Resolution No. 2488. <br />In the above -named assessment roll no remonstrators appeared and no written <br />remonstrances were filed. The Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of delivery of <br />notices and same were found to be sufficient. The Board, therefore, finds that the <br />several lots and parcels of land have been benefitted and damaged in the amounts <br />shown on said roll. The Board, therefore, decides to take final action on said <br />Assessment Roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved <br />without modification and proceedings closed and the alley vacated. <br />A Resolution was referred to the Board by the City Council pertaining to <br />the rerouting of bus service of Portage Avenue line, reading as follows: <br />• <br />RESOLUTION <br />Pertaining to the rerouting of the new Bus Service on the Portage Avenue line as <br />well as the Notre Dame and Madison Street Car Lines. <br />WHEREAS, the City has requested that the Northern Indiana Railway Company eliminate <br />it's present Street Car Service, and that a modern Bus Service be provided in <br />it's stead, and <br />WHEREAS, with the elimination of the Street Cars, the presenttracks will be removed <br />from the streets now having the Street Car right of way, i.e., on Portage Avenue, <br />Navarre Street, and North Michigan Street from Navarre to LaSalle, and <br />S WHEREAS, the tracks on North Michigan Street between LaSalle and Washington are <br />now being used by the Portage, Madison, and Notre Dame lines, but with the <br />elimination of the old St. Marys and the Portage Avenue lines, the north bound <br />Madison Street and Notre Dame Street Cars will be the only Street Cars that will <br />use these tracks, and <br />WHEREAS, the Street Car right of way on North Michigan Street between LaSalle and <br />Washington is in a very bad condition and also has an obsolete switch which was <br />used for the St. Marys line thereby creating a traffic hazard that should be <br />removed by the rerouting of the northbound Madison Street and Notre Dame Street <br />Cars, in which case North Michigan Street could then be reconditioned all the way <br />to Washington Street instead of just to LaSalle Avenue. <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Northern Indiana Railway Company be requested <br />
