297 <br />MEETING May 17, 1937 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, May 17, 1937, <br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the previous <br />meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of <br />$8,509.84, from the following suppliers, were <br />approved <br />and ordered paid.. <br />Indiana & Mich. Jordan <br />Company ............................. $792.00 <br />Painting Bridge <br />Modern Decorating Company ............................. $2,967.00 <br />Indiana Paint & Wallpaper Company..................... 3,600.00 <br />After duly considering the above bids, the Board decided to place the contract for <br />the repairs with Charles A. Jordan Company. The contract for the painting was <br />withheld and bids were taken under consideration for later decision. <br />Mr. Frederick J. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, filed primary assessment roll <br />showing awards of damages and assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of <br />alley north of Sample street from the alley west of LaFayette Street to the west <br />line of Garst's Addition, also 2nd alley west of LaFayette Blvd. from the south <br />line of Tutt Street projected west, to Sample Street, same being Vacation Resolution <br />2488. In the above named Assessment Roll the Board hereby orders that on the 1st <br />day of June 1937 it will meet in the City Hall at 10:30 A. M. to hear and receive <br />remonstrances from all persons interested in or effected by said vacation resolution <br />and Board further orders notices of said hearing be advertised in two newspapers <br />in South Bend on May 20th and May 27th and that notices together with amount of <br />damages awarded or benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners according <br />• <br />to law. <br />Continuation certificate covering contractor's bond in favor of J. Fred <br />Christman in the Continental Casualty Company was approved by the Board. <br />Continuation certificate covering contractor's bond in favor of H. C. Parrott <br />in the Continental Casualty Company was approved by the Board. <br />• <br />The Board approved contract for the purchase of a certain described real estate <br />as follows: <br />j CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF CERTI-SN DESCRIBED REAL ESTATE <br />This agreement entered into by and between Thomas H. Jackson and Laura Dell <br />Jackson, husband and wife, of St. Joseph County, and George W. Jackson, single, of <br />St. Joseph County, and Emma M. Jackson and Charles A. Jackson, her husband, of <br />Elkhart County, hereinafter referred to as parties of the first Dart and Frederick J <br />Anderson, Edwin W. Hunter end Fred Woodward, constituting the Board of Public Works <br />and Safety of the Municipal City of South Bend, hereinafter referred to as parties <br />of the second part. <br />W'ITNESSE`I'H : <br />THAT WHEREAS, parties of the first part are owners of the following described <br />real estate situated in St. Joseph County, Indiana: <br />The East 1 of the North 1 of the Southwest <br />4 of the Northwest 4 of Section 54, Town- <br />ship 38 North, Range 2 East, containing 10 <br />acres more or less. <br />AND WHEREAS, it is the desire of the parties of the second part to purchase <br />
