MEETING `May 3. 1937 — --_—^ <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, May.3, 1937, <br />at 9:45 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. <br />Claims, from the following suppliers,1n the amount of $4,953.20 were approved <br />and ordered paid. <br />Northern Indiana Public Service Co. <br />G. 0. Longenecker, City Sexton, submittedhisreport of the operations <br />of the Cemetery Department for the month of April, showing receipts of $824.00. This <br />report is on file in the office of the Board of Public Works. <br />A petition signed by three property owners was presented to the Board, requesting <br />that the alley between Corby and Howard Streets, from Niles Avenue to Stanfield <br />Street, be graded. This petition was referred to the City Engineer for investigation <br />due to extreme cut necessary to accomplish the results. <br />Continuation certificate covering contractor's bond of V. R. Britton in the <br />United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company was approved by the Board. <br />Contractor's bond in favor of Antoni Kubasik in the Great American Indemnity <br />Company was approved by the Board. <br />Mr. John W. Gibbons was present at the meeting and requested that the Safety <br />Council be permitted to display publicity signs on the sides of various buildings <br />in the downtown district for the purpose of conducting an educational safety program. <br />. i The Board granted permission, subject to its approval as to the locations where <br />these display cases will be placed. <br />j A sketch was submitted by the Associate Dealers Company, showing an approach <br />to vacant` property at the corner of Mishawaka Avenue and 36th Street upon which it <br />is proposed to erect a root beer barrel. The arrangement of the entrance being <br />satisfactory, the Board approved same, subject to regular permits being issued. <br />A sketch was submitted to the Board by John Ruppe for the construction of <br />approaches to vacant property at the corner of Main and Ewing Streets for the <br />erection of a filling station. This was approved by the Board. <br />A representative of the Ralph Sollitt Construction Company presented a sketch <br />for the increase of an approach to vacant property on Lincoln Way East east of <br />Sample Street. After considering this sketch, the Board authorized an extension of <br />the opening to 35 ft. <br />Mr. Anderson submitted specifications for the repair of piers under the Colfax <br />Avenue Bridge, also for painting the bridge. The Board instructed that bids be <br />advertised for for this work to be published May 6th and 13th and bids to be opened <br />May 17th. <br />The Board considered the advisibility of advertising for bids for a Roller <br />and a Concrete Mixer for use in the Street Department, these advertisements to be <br />• published May 6th and 13th and bids to be opened on the 17th. <br />I <br />Report of the General Citizens Sewage Disposal Committee was submitted to the <br />Board, as referred by the Council under date of April 26th. This report is on file <br />in the office of the Board of Public Works. <br />This being the date set for hearing on Vacation Resolution No. 2488, same <br />being vacation of alley north of Sample Street from the alley west of Lafayette <br />Boulevard to the west line of Garst's Addition, and 2nd alley west of Lafayette <br />Boulevard from the south line of Tutt Street projected west to Sample Street, there <br />being no objectors and no objections having been filed, and the Board being <br />advised of this fact, Vacation Resolution was approved and referred to the <br />• Engineering Department for the purpose of making up final estimate of benefits and <br />damages. <br />i <br />I <br />! <br />�!
