MEETING March 22`. 1937 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, March 22, 1937, at 10:30 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Claims, from the following suppliers, in the amount of'$381.61 were approved and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments amounting to $1,810.16.. New York Central Railroad $1.24 G. E. Anderson., Civil City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing awards of damages and assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of alley east of Webster Street from the north line of Lot 1 to the south line of Lot 4 in Toth's Addition, same being Vacation Resolution 2487. In the above named Assessment Roll the Board -hereby orders that on the 5th day of April 1937 it will meet in the City Hall at 10:30 A. M. to hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or effected by said vacation resolution and Board further orders notices of said hearing be advertised in two newspapers in South.Bend on March 25th and April lst and that notices together with amount of damages awarded �.._ or benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners according to law. The Board executed contract with Platz & Gill for the general work of remodel- ing a store building located at-817 South Lafayette Street to be known as Hose House No. 2 to include two alternate bids, the amount of contract to be as follows: General Contract ................................................ $9,286.00 Plastering of entire second floor ............................... 297.00 • Installation of eighteen wardrobes on the second floor.......... 395.00 Total $9,978.00 All to be in accordance with specifications prepared by Maurer & Maurer, Architects, copy of which is on file in the office of the Board of Public Works. The Board also executed a contract in connection with the establishment of the new No. 2 Hose House with Niesgodski Brothers for the plumbing and heating work at a cost of $1,227.00. In connection with this contract, it was regularly moved, seconded and carried that Niesgodski Brothers be required to employ Union Labor. They were so notified and agreed to do so. • The Board also executed a contract with C. P. Luxton, doing business under the style of the Electric Construction Company, for the electrical wiring and remodel- ing of No. 2 Hose House, the amount of the contract being $279.25. A petition was presented by property owners and residents in the vicinity of the 1900 block on Leer Street, requesting that the excess dirt be removed in the alley from Fox to Calvert Streets parallel to Leer Street and the alley from said alley to Clyde Street parallel to Fox Street and that the same be gravelled. This petition was referred to the Street Department for attention. The F & S Transit Company requested the privilege of installing an underground • gasoline tank adjacent to their building under sidewalk. This has the approval of the. Fire Chief. The Gaseteria Company was permitted to replace a twenty thousand gallon gas tank for storage purposes at Ford and Kosciuszko Streets. This had the approval of the Fire Chief.
