MEETING March 22`. 1937 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, March 22, 1937, <br />at 10:30 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. <br />Claims, from the following suppliers, in the amount of'$381.61 were approved <br />and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments amounting to $1,810.16.. <br />New York Central Railroad $1.24 G. E. Meyer & Son, Inc. $3.27 <br />South.Bend Exterminating Co: 20.00 The South Bend Clinic 13.00 <br />South Bend Exterminating Co. 12,50 Simplex Time Recorder Co 3.00 <br />Indiana Lumber & Mfg. Co. 5.69 Zeltner Hardware Co. 16.13 <br />Indiana Lumber & Mfg. Co. 2.34 Koontz -Wagner Electric Co. 5.84 <br />Indiana Lumber & Mfg. Co. 89.20 Koontz -Wagner Electric Co. 1.61 <br />Mirror Press, Inc. 22.50 Maurice Hoban 20,00 <br />Schuyler Rose 164.53 Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Co. .76 <br />Mr. Frederick J. Anderson., Civil City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll <br />showing awards of damages and assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of <br />alley east of Webster Street from the north line of Lot 1 to the south line of <br />Lot 4 in Toth's Addition, same being Vacation Resolution 2487. In the above named <br />Assessment Roll the Board -hereby orders that on the 5th day of April 1937 it will <br />meet in the City Hall at 10:30 A. M. to hear and receive remonstrances from all <br />persons interested in or effected by said vacation resolution and Board further <br />orders notices of said hearing be advertised in two newspapers in South.Bend on <br />March 25th and April lst and that notices together with amount of damages awarded <br />�.._ <br />or benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners according to law. <br />The Board executed contract with Platz & Gill for the general work of remodel- <br />ing a store building located at-817 South Lafayette Street to be known as Hose <br />House No. 2 to include two alternate bids, the amount of contract to be as follows: <br />General Contract ................................................ $9,286.00 <br />Plastering of entire second floor ............................... 297.00 <br />• Installation of eighteen wardrobes on the second floor.......... 395.00 <br />Total $9,978.00 <br />All to be in accordance with specifications prepared by Maurer & Maurer, Architects, <br />copy of which is on file in the office of the Board of Public Works. <br />The Board also executed a contract in connection with the establishment of the <br />new No. 2 Hose House with Niesgodski Brothers for the plumbing and heating work <br />at a cost of $1,227.00. In connection with this contract, it was regularly moved, <br />seconded and carried that Niesgodski Brothers be required to employ Union Labor. <br />They were so notified and agreed to do so. <br />• The Board also executed a contract with C. P. Luxton, doing business under the <br />style of the Electric Construction Company, for the electrical wiring and remodel- <br />ing of No. 2 Hose House, the amount of the contract being $279.25. <br />A petition was presented by property owners and residents in the vicinity of <br />the 1900 block on Leer Street, requesting that the excess dirt be removed in the <br />alley from Fox to Calvert Streets parallel to Leer Street and the alley from said <br />alley to Clyde Street parallel to Fox Street and that the same be gravelled. This <br />petition was referred to the Street Department for attention. <br />The F & S Transit Company requested the privilege of installing an underground <br />• gasoline tank adjacent to their building under sidewalk. This has the approval of <br />the. Fire Chief. <br />The Gaseteria Company was permitted to replace a twenty thousand gallon gas <br />tank for storage purposes at Ford and Kosciuszko Streets.
