PMJ <br />MOTING -November 24, 1936 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, November 23, 19369 <br />at 1000 A..M. Cleland <br />15.00 <br />Representatives of the Polish -American Civie.Central Committee in the persons of <br />John Bucakowski, Dr. Palicki. and Mr. Minczewski were present to discuss the petition <br />submitted by the above Committee for the re -surfacing of Western Avenue. After a <br />thorough discussion of the matter, the Board agreed to f.ile.a petition with the W. F. A. <br />for this improvement, by which the Federal Government will pay for material and labor, <br />the City of South Bend to furnish the equipment. <br />Mr. Weer reported on the petition of Grant Lewis and others for the improvement <br />of alley between Broadway and Pennsylvania Avenue from Rush -Street west. Mr. Weer <br />reported that this improvement would be made as soon as W. P. A. will do it. <br />In reference to petition of residents in the vicinity of Orange Street to prohibit <br />the spotting and unloading of coal cars, the City Attorney reported that he had notified <br />the offenders to discontinue this practice. <br />Regarding the summons served on Mr. Anderson, regarding the sale of Cemetery <br />property by the estate of Lasow Barth, the City Attorney reported that he will take <br />care of this case and has entered his appearance in the matter. <br />The Secretary reported having heard from the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and <br />the Dallas Chamber of Commerce regarding possible purchase of flood lights from their <br />Expositions in which they informed the Board that there is a possibility of the <br />Expositions being held again in 1937 and, therefore, no equipment is available at this <br />time. <br />A petition signed by seventeen property owners and residents was presented to the <br />Board, requesting the improvement by grading, gravelling or with cinders the alley <br />running north and south from California Avenue to Tian Buren Street between Cottage Grove <br />and Harrison Avenues. This matter was referred to the Street Department for action <br />and instructions to proceed if the work can: be done with W. P. A. labor. <br />A letter addressed to theMayor-and to the City Council was referred to the Board <br />from the Ometeo Supply ompany, dtating that it was their desire to construct and <br />maintain a railroad siding on Ease Madison Avenue approximately thirty-five feet east <br />of Niles Avenue. After discussing this matter, the Board decided that when the <br />Railroad Company applies for franchise it would consider the matter at that time, and <br />the Ometco Supply Company was so notified. <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:40 A.
