Store <br />1.60 <br />Michigan Ave. Lumber Co. <br />5.14 <br />Representatives of the Polish American <br />Central Civic Committee were present <br />and <br />requested consideration on the <br />following subjects: <br />Western Avenue and Walnut subway - they claimed many accidents are occurring, due <br />to the construction and poor lighting. The Board informed them that a survey was being <br />made of the situation and some recorrxc.endetion would undoubtedly be made in the near <br />future. <br />Cutting corners at Olive Street and Western Avenue - this improvement was agreed <br />to by the Boerd several weeks ago, but the Committee wras informed that due to the fact <br />that at the present time no W.P.A. project had been established for improvement of <br />sidewalks, some delay would be experienced in making this improvement. <br />Traffic signal at Olive Street and I:'estern Avenue - the Board informed the <br />Committee that this matter had been before them on several occasions and that u-0 to now <br />they found no way of making this installation. <br />Elevation of Grank Trunk and L-ichigen branch of the New York Central at Walnut <br />Street - the Cor~ .ittee claimed that this rr_etter had been proposed but not completed <br />in 1930 and that they urged it be elevated. The Board informed them that the records <br />would be investigated to ascertain the approximate cost to the City and that they would <br />be informed of the amount involved which would have to be established before the project <br />could be undertaken. <br />The Health Department requested that the walls in that department be cleaned <br />during the summer and the matter was referred back to their_ with instructions to have <br />the janitors do this work as they found time. <br />A communication was received from !.-rs. H. A. Edres regarding the dumping of <br />rubbish on property on 20th Street. The matter was referred to the Board of Public <br />Health. <br />11r. Paul Burrnac, 313 Franklin Street, referred to the Board the matter of the <br />alley between Franklin and William Streets from Calvert Street south to Donald Street <br />which has never been opened, requesting that this be done. The matter was referred <br />to the Street Department for investigation and recommendation. <br />Mr. Fred Anderson reported on the communication received from Attorney Orie Parker <br />in reference to location on Twyckenhem Drive south of South Bend Avenue which is being <br />used as a dump. Mr. Anderson's investigation disclosed the fact the.t-there.is a deep <br />hole at the place formerly used as a gravel pit and that according to the Assessor's <br />plat book this property is owned by N. L. Davis. <br />The communication, unsigned, which was referred to the Engineering. Department <br />regarding private sewers on Lincoln Way East from 1-'iami Street to Vernon Street, <br />11r. Anderson reported that the owners of property on the south side of Lincoln way East <br />also own the property between Lincoln Way East and the river end have built their own <br />outlets. He also reported that W.P.A. workers cleaning the river bank have informed <br />us that in grCding the bank they have uncovered some of these sewers but have lowered <br />the outlets where they found them. Re -port is n_ leced on file in the office of the <br />Board of Public Works. <br />Mir. Weer submitted his monthly report for February 1936 of the activities of the <br />Street Department and W.P.A. projects, which is on file in the office of the Board of <br />Public Works. <br />A complaint was received with reference to the situation at Logan ,Street and North <br />Shore Boulevard at the foot of 34th, 35th and 36th Streets and that an unsightly <br />situation has been created, due to that section being; used as a dump and also the <br />
