210 <br />MEETING April. 6, 1936 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, April 6, 1936, <br />at 10:45 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of previous meeting were read end approved. <br />Claims in the amount of $11013.73, from the following suppliers, were <br />approved <br />and ordered paid. Payrolls for the first half of April for all departments <br />but the <br />i Building Department were approved <br />amounting <br />to $1,602.56. <br />Indiana & Mich. Carlin <br />6.25 <br />j Epworth Hospital <br />41.75 <br />Keeshin Tiotor Express Co. <br />.61 <br />The Indiana Bell Telephone Company, in a communication dated April 6th, requested <br />permission to remove poles and aerial cable in the east side of North Michigan Street <br />and placing of underground conduit and cable on the west side of the street north of <br />North Shore Drive. Their blue printindicatesthat they want to run this conduit in <br />the parkway between sidewalk andp.;p*,i� 4k.After discussion with Mr. Qualls, the Board <br />approved this construction excepting that the conduit is to be placed in the street <br />just east of the curb. Mr. Qualls is instructed to communicate with the Telephone <br />Company accordingly. <br />A communication from the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, dated Yerch 23rd <br />accompanied by blue print showing proposed underground conduit and cable construction <br />on Niles Avenue at the alley north of Cedar Street, was read. The construction is <br />recommended by air. quells and approved by the Board. The Telephone Company have been <br />notified accordingly. <br />Mr. Quallsreported further in reference to extension in the Fire Alarm Station <br />I and indicated that his investigation showed the cost of material for face brick steel <br />j� windows and concrete floor would be approximately $500.00. The Board, after considerin <br />this matter, decided to postpone action for a matter of thirty to sixty days to give <br />an opportunity to determine if the present budget will permit of such improvement., <br />Per. William Longenecker made a. report of the activities of the Cemeta.ry Department <br />and showed collections for the month of March of $432.00 for general care and $231.50 <br />for perpetual care of lots. <br />A communication was.r eceived from Edward E. Schueler of Newark, New Jersey, son <br />f of Piss. T. Balkin, owner of property at 1255 East diner Street, whose attention was <br />called last January to the fact that fence.erected on the rear of this property <br />extends two feet into the alley. Mr. Schueler stated that his mother, on account of <br />sickness, was unable to leave Newark at this time but would te.ke care of the matter <br />as soon as she is able to travel. <br />Communication was received from the State Highway Commission in regard to <br />connecting sewers at a- point 423 ft. east of -station 0 + 00, as shown on the plans in <br />which they advise they are having Mr. Downs, --District Engineer of LaPorte, down and <br />make further report. Communication was ordered placed on file. <br />Mr. leer, Street Commissioner, submitted report of W.P.A. activities and expense <br />for the month of January, which report is on file in the office of the Board of Public <br />Works. <br />Excavation bond in the amount of $1,000.00 in favor of the Fredericks Plumbing & <br />Heating Company in the 1._assachusetts Bonding and Insurance Company was approved and <br />filed. <br />Excavation bond in favor of Frank Sailer in the TGryland Casualty Company in the <br />amount of $1,000.00 was approved and placed'on file. <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.
