West Printing Co. <br />19.75 <br />South <br />Bend News Times <br />8.41 <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />Mr. Qualls reported that the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company were now at work <br />changing poles on East North Shore Drive from Leeper Avenue East to Michigan Central <br />Railroad, in accordance with recommendations made to the Board on September 3rd, and <br />submitted sketch showing location of the poles. <br />A communication from the Abstract Company of St. Joseph County was received, <br />requesting that the following described property be re -spread:,. <br />The North 120 ft. of the East 1 of Lot 4 <br />and the North 100 f t. of the West 2 of <br />Lot 4 in Glass House Survey. <br />This matter was referred to the Engineering Department for investigation and recommen- <br />dation. <br />This being the date set for hearing on Vacation Resolution #2483, being vacation <br />of the first alley North of Randolph Street from Marine Street to the alley West of <br />lvlarine''Street, those present were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Uleman, Krrs. Anna Fisher and <br />Mrs. Wilhelmina Fisher. The Board informed those present that the expense of <br />advertising and other incidental expenses in connection with vacation of this alley <br />must be borne by Lots No. 18 and 19 and that it would amount to in the neighborhood of <br />$40.00. After some discussion in reference to payment of this expense, it was decided <br />that those present make their plans for the payment of these fees before definite <br />action is taken by the Board. The hearing was, therefore, postponed until ten o'clock <br />Monday, October 7th. <br />The matter of removal of brick pillars on Mishawaka Avenue at Twyckenham, Bellevue <br />and Esther Streets was discussed by the Board and referred to the Engineering Depart- <br />ment to ascertain if these pillars are public or private property and to observe the <br />extent of their obstruction of view in entering Mishawaka Avenue. <br />.Neighbors in the vicinity of Dayton Street and the first alley North of Randolph <br />Street desire to have the street light at that point reduced. The Board took this <br />matter under advisement and the Secretary instructed the Electrical Department to <br />investigate. <br />Question of vacation for the janitors of the City Hall was brought up and the <br />Board decided to allow each janitor one week vacation with pay, to be executed so that <br />it will not interfere with the work of the janitors and the heating of the building. <br />. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT - Mr. Longenecker present: <br />Matters pertaining to his department were discussed and he reported he now had <br />sufficient labor to handle the work in that department in a satisfactory manner. <br />• Mr. Longenecker brought up the question of securing a push cart of some kind to be <br />used in transferring; his burial vault slabs. He was instructed to confer with the <br />Street Department in an effort to find necessary equipment there. <br />Mr. Charles Lewinski and Mr. Sroda were present at the meeting of the Board and. <br />again presented a plea in behalf of Mr. Sroda for remuneration for alleged damage to <br />his property, due to the Western Avenue and Walnut Street improvement. The Board <br />informed them that the Water Works had been instructed and had connected the water to <br />their property and that was as far as the Board could go. Mr. Sroda stated he had no <br />way of entering the property and the Board advised him that they were unable to make an <br />appropriation for this and that he would have to do the work at his own expense. They <br />were also informed that other property owners in that vicinity were claiming damages <br />• which the Board could not be legally authorized to allow and that their recourse would <br />be in a friendly suit through the Courts. <br />The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon. <br />• Board of Public Works <br />ATTEST: k <br />
