D. 4.00 <br />Mr. Longenecker reported on progress made in the Cemetery and stated that he was <br />promised some help which would be furnished by W. P. A. <br />A Petition signed by four property owners requesting alley between Cedar and <br />Notre Dame Avenues from Hill Street to St LouisBoulevard be improved by construction <br />of concrete pavement was read and rejected by the Board. <br />The Cooke Sign Company requested -permission to hang a sign overhead from the <br />Palais Royale to the old Bloch and Kuehl building, advertising the Dog Show to be <br />displayed from August 26th to September 9th. The Board granted the request. <br />Mr. Anderson brought up the question of Indemnity Insurance on Ford Truck used in <br />the Engineering Department and instructed the Secretary to have this included with the <br />Street Department equipment. <br />Mr. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, filed plans and the Board adopted said plans <br />together with the following Vacation Resolution: <br />COPY OF VACATION RESO-LUTION NO. 2483 <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,_I1`TDIANA: That it is - <br />desirable to vacate the following: <br />ALLEY NORTH OF RANDOLPH STREET from <br />Marine Street to the lst Alley west of Marine Street. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially effected by such vacation <br />Lots 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 16,-19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 <br />and 25 in Fisher South Side Survey. <br />Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 3rd day of September and on <br />the loth day of September 1935 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and News -Times. <br />This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the i day of September-1935 at <br />10:30 A. Thurn, Clerk of the Board <br />Several members of the Plumbing Association appeared'`before the Board to protest <br />against the Water Works'Department doing work that should be regularly turned over to <br />the plumbers. Vx. Bradford, Super-intendent of the Water Works., was called into -;the <br />conference. Mr. Anderson explained that the work under consideration was due to <br />widening of streets on Federal projects and as it "had to be done at no expense to the <br />property owners and the Water Works were equipped to do it that this was the only <br />procedure that could be followed. He further informed the plumbers that on other <br />projects of this nature the Board would be obliged to follow the same procedure. <br />Mr. Albert Smith, one of the plumbers represented, brought up a question in <br />reference to charge that should be made by the Water Works for a -two-inch tap at the <br />new building of the Chemical Laboratory.
