Cleveland <br />A Petition from residents on Gertrude street was presented to the Board, requesti <br />that a sewer be constructed on Gertrude Street from Prairie Avenue to Ewing Avenue. <br />This was referred to the Engineering Department. <br />Mr. Eli F. Seebirt, in the communication to the Board of Public Works dated <br />July 5th, enclosed_two copies of Agreement, tentatively drawn up to convey to Cora, <br />Orpha and Lona Swindler the dwelling house and all improvements located on their <br />property, included in the assessment roll in the Bottle Neck proceedings, in exchange <br />for dismissal of their appeal. All of which was referred to the City Attorney with <br />instructions to investigate and bring the matter to the attention of the Board at its <br />next meeting on July 15th. <br />A Petition from Weisser Bros., conducting a Grocery, for permission to break curb <br />' to construct a driveway to garage, was approved by the Board provided no construction <br />work is necessary - in which event, a licensed contractor must be employed. The <br />Secretary so notified Weisser Bros. ;I <br />A sketch from Sherman Metzger, 228 South St. Peter Street, was submitted to the <br />Board, requesting permission to break out curb to allow construction of driveway to <br />garage on 27th Street, and this was approved with the understanding that if further <br />construction work is necessary, a licensed contractor is to be employed. Mr. Metzger <br />has been informed accordingly: <br />Continuation certificate in favor of Barker & Spromberg for street excavation and <br />for Delbert McNab, in the Employers` Liability Assurance Corporation, were approved. <br />Mr. Qualls, in a communication to the Board, advised that all poles and wires have <br />been removed from Western Avenue, from Maple'Street to Cherry Street, and that in the <br />removal of these poles it was necessary to remove seven street lights and that under <br />the present contract this would create a saving of $173.40 per year. He further stated <br />that there was an agitation for boulevard lights along the approaches. to -the underpass, <br />and that this would require eighteen boulevard lights at $27.00 each per year or a <br />total expense of $486.00. He further stated that the operation of the City Lighting <br />System, under the present contract if continued for the balance of the year on the same <br />basis, would create a saving on the contract of $418.55. This saving added to the <br />elimination above mentioned would still leave sufficient to install the boulevard <br />lights. Under this set up, he requested permission to install underground construction <br />which may be utilized for the installation of eighteen_boulevard lights. The Board, <br />i on regular motion, adopted this program. <br />Mr. Qualls, in a communication to the Board, stated that, as a safety measure to <br />prevent collision with concrete construction at each end of the center tier of steel <br />supports of the New York Central bridge on Western Avenue, he recommended that red <br />reflector warning signals be mounted in the concrete at an approximate cost of $5.00 <br />I each. The Board of Works, on regular motion, adopted this recommendation. <br />The meeting adjourned at 12:20 P.
