MEETING JUKE 31, 19 35 1 41 - <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, June 3rd, at 11:30 <br />A.M. All members were present. <br />The minutes of meeting of May 27th were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of $360.67 were -approved and ordered paid by the Controller. <br />Mr. William Moore appeared before the Board with reference to the alley east of <br />Niles: Ave. south from Crescent Ave. asking that this either be vacated or graded to <br />relieve a bad situation in rainy weather. The matter was referred to Mr. Anderson of <br />the Engineering Department for disposition. <br />Senator C. A. Perkins presented -a plan for the construction of a filling station <br />at Lincoln Way Test and Wilbur Streets and, as this plan did not entirely come within <br />the requirements of the Board so far as openings are concerned, the matter was referred <br />to Mr. Anderson of the Engineering Department who.will confer with Senator Perkins and <br />adopt some plan that will be satisfactory to the Board. <br />Mr. Neer reported the activities of the Street Department for the month of May and <br />gave a complete list of the work done, which report is on file in the office of the <br />Board of Public Works. <br />Mr. Longenecker advised the Board that he had been receiving complaints from lot <br />• owners whose lots abut the ravine, and some of them have raised objections to filling <br />in this ravine. The Board instructed him to have these people bring in their deeds to <br />determine definitely the boundary of their lots. It was moved, seconded and carried <br />that he go ahead with this filling in work until advised to the contrary by the Board <br />of Works. <br />A letter from Mr. W. G. Crabill was read calling attention to a serious situation <br />at the east approach of Angella Avenue Bridge- he stating that the bridge being <br />narrower than the highway it is important that the guards be in suitable condition and <br />that only part of the present guard fence is still standing and it needs repair and <br />painting. This matter has been referred to the Street Department with instructions to <br />arrange forthe repair at once. <br />• A resolution signed by fifteen chapters of various labor unions in the city urging <br />the City of South Bend and its Board of Public Works to make application for sewage <br />disposal plan was received- and ordered placed on file. <br />An agreement with the New Jersey, Indiana & Illinois Railroad Company for the <br />construction, maintenance and operation by the Railroad of an industrial sidetrack <br />across Olive Street near the intersection of Indiana Ave. was submitted, approved by <br />the Board and referred to the Common Council. <br />• <br />`• <br />• <br />• <br />Insurance on the Board of Health Plymouth Coupe, covering Fire, Theft, Public <br />Liability and Property Damage placed through Hill & Pensinger, was approved by the <br />Board. <br />Mr. Weer proposed to the Board that the present Street Department building be torn <br />down and a new building put up in the same location, using the salvage of material and <br />F.E.R.A. labor, which would give the Street Department much needed improved quarters. <br />The Board instructed Mr. Neer to bring in a definite plan and an account of the :cost.., <br />for discussion at the next Board Meeting. <br />The Meeting adjourned at 12:30 P.M. <br />ATTEST Clerk <br />Yr-=MJffW— -- <br />s. <br />
