_ 4' <br />Meeting April 1st, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Mcaday, April lst, 1935 at <br />11:50 A. M. All members were present. <br />The minutes of meetings of March 23rd, 25th and 26th were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amcant of $1,864.15 were allowed. <br />The Board approved plan for a filling station at the Southwest corner of Calvert & <br />Irwyckenham Drive submitted by Andrew Gunderma n. <br />This being the day advertised for tbe: opening of bids for the purchase of a new <br />street sweeper, the Board considered bids as submitted by the Austin -Western Road <br />Machinery Co. of Aurora 111. and the Elgin Street Sweeper Co. of Elgin, Ill. The <br />bids were identical at 66,690.00 with optional modes of settlement deferred payments <br />bearing 6% interest. After fully considdring both bids, the Board decided to pur- <br />chase the Elgin Sweeper, subject to confirmation by the Common Council. ; <br />Mr. Weer riade a ditailed report of the work done in, the Street Department during the <br />month of March. <br />Mr. Qualls sulanitted the following proposal for the reduction of street lighting <br />expense which was approved by the Board: <br />"TO THE` HONORABLE BOARD OF WORKS "April 1, 1935 <br />Gentl een : <br />In order to further reduce the street lighting expense, and take care of the Western <br />Ave. -Walnut St. underpass lighting and traffic signals, I desire to submit the <br />following recommendations: <br />Reduce Lumen outut of lights on Chapin Street: <br />Lights Number 2577 to 2590, inclusive, Washington St. to Napier St. Change from <br />5000 lumen to 2500 lumen. Save $117.60 <br />Lights Number 2591 to 2612, inclusive, Napier St. to Monroe St. Change from <br />5000 lumen to 4000 lumen, Save $26.40 <br />Lights Number 2972 to 2986, inclusive, Monroe St. to Ford St. Change from 6000:. <br />lumen. to 2500 lumen. Save $126.00 <br />Lights Number 2874 to 2890, inclusive, Ford St. to Prairie Ave. Change from <br />5000 lumen to 2500 lumen. Save $142.80 <br />Total annual saving on Chapin St. - $412.80 <br />Special Lights on Sample Street: <br />Lights Dumber 3148 .and 3149. KEEP TO RIGHT signs and railroad bridge. Remove these <br />electric signs and install red reflectors, save $40.00 <br />Lights Numb-er 3009 to 3012, inclusive, red lights on fence west of Fellows St. <br />Remove these lights, save $80.00 <br />Total saving on Sample St. $120.00 <br />Miscellaneous- : <br />Change Lamp No. 408, Thomas St. at alley East of Maple St. from 4000 lumen to <br />2500 lumen, Save $6.00 <br />Change Lamp No. 586 Madison St. west of Niles Ave. frcm 60000 lumen to 4000 <br />lumen, save 67.80 <br />Change Lamp No. 1600, Miner & St. Peter Sts. from 6000 lumen to 4040 lumen <br />.0 <br />save $7.80 <br />Change Lamp No. 1627, Marquette & Lafayette Sts. from 6000 lumen to 4000 lumen, <br />save $7,80 <br />Change Lamps No. 2351-2352-2379-2360, Western Ave. in Belleville Addition, from <br />5000 lumen to 2500 lumen, save $33.60 <br />Grand Total of Saving in above - $59 5.80 <br />Respectfully submitted <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT <br />Wm. F.Qualls, Supt." <br />Mr. Qullas was instructed by the Board to confer with the representatives of the <br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. with a -view to arriT-t-ng at a definite contract <br />fpr the illumination of the City. Mr. pualls was instructed to submit a plan for <br />the illumination of the underpass at We ern Ave. and Walnut St. <br />The Secretary submitted a request from residents in the vicinity of Arnold St. and <br />Prairie Ave. for a light now on the list of outages to be reinstalled on Arnold St. <br />between Prairie Ave. and Indiana Ave. The matter was referred to Mr. Qualls for <br />investigation. <br />Mr. Anderson, City Civil Engineer, submitted the following assessment redistribu- <br />tion which was approved by the Board: <br />0 <br />0. <br />• <br />• <br />0 <br />
