The minutes of meeting of March 112 1935 were read and. approved. <br />Claims in the amount of $702 02 were approved and ordered paid. <br />A letter from the Indiana & Michigan Electric Go. to the Mayor was read and the matter <br />of light contract was discussed. It was decided to invite Mr. English and Mr. Calvett <br />of the Electric Company to meet with the Board of Public Works on Saturday morning <br />March 23rd and the Se cre tery was instructed to make such an appointment. <br />A letter from the S. Chapin St. Business men was read asking for two street lights at <br />809 and 830 S. Chapin St. The matter was referred to Mr. Qualls for investigation to <br />report at next meeting. <br />Mr. Weer brc ght OF the question of sweeping streets and reported that we have one <br />Austin sweeper in good condition and one Elgin which would require at least an expen- <br />diture of $1,000.00 to put it in only fair condition and that with this equipment the <br />city could not be kept clean this summer. The Board authorized, subject to action of <br />the Council, to permit Mr. deer to advertise fbr bids on a new sweeper. <br />The Board instructed the Secretary to notify dim. Longenecker to be present at the next <br />meeting of the Board and to make weekly reports of the operations at the Cemetery. <br />A letter from Jos. 1. Avery, City Judge, was read setting forth a bad condition. in the <br />floor in the attorneys" conference room in the City Court and asking to have it <br />repaired. The matter was referred to the City Engl veer. <br />Deed to triangular strip of land from the Singer Mfg. Co. to the City of South Bend <br />to be used in widening Western Ave. was approved by the Board. <br />Fire insurance policy for $500.00 on the Police Garage building at 224 N. fain St* <br />placed through Y. G. Evert in the Law Union and Rock Insurance Company of London was <br />approved by the Board. <br />• The meeting adjourned at 12;10 P. M. <br />. Attest:— Clerk <br />• <br />• <br />9 <br />
