103 <br />Meeting March 4, 1935 <br />8egular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 11: 30 A. M. Monday, March <br />49 1935. All members were present. <br />The minutes of regular meeting of February 25, 1935 and special meeting of February <br />28, 1935 were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of 34,4Swere approved and ordered paid. <br />James H. Pierce complained to the Board that he was finding considerable broken glass <br />in the garbage and subm it ted the following which he asked to have printed on cards <br />at his expense which he would leave at homes were glass is found <br />• (incorrect - see bel oar ) "GARBAGE RULES" <br />"The ordinances of the City of South Bend, and regulations for the disposal of garbage, <br />require that the garbage be fed to hogs. 'Tot this reason you are instructed to keep <br />your garbage absolutely free from any glass, cans and paper. It should consist solely <br />of the refuse from table use. All broken glass, dishware and cans must be kept from <br />your garbage. If wrapped, use as little paper as is absolutely necessary." <br />"Please co-operate with the city officials in observance of these rules." <br />'BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE <br />• CITY OF SOUTH BEND" <br />"Mar ch 4, 19 35. <br />• <br />AP <br />0 <br />The Board gave its permission to use its name in this way. <br />Mr. Quails reported in the matter of placing a street light at the corner of Hildreth <br />and Esther Streets. After investigating the matter carefully, he recommended putting <br />a 1000 lumen lamp at this point at an annual cost of $19.80. The Board concurred <br />and instructed Nyr. Quails to ordar the installation. <br />Mr. Qualls reported -complaints coming from the vicinity of Jefferson Ave. and Esther <br />St. on account of darkness at that point. He recommended turning out two lights <br />number 1681 and 1685 and turning on Tights numbers 1683 and 1687 which would correct <br />the con di ti on. The Board authorized Mr. Qualls to order these changes made. <br />The continuation certificate of John G. Kestler excavation bond was approved by the <br />Board. <br />The meeting edj earned at 12:10 P. M. <br />Attest Clerk <br />--Sam <br />, MEN, <br />•: + • ' • ic ". <br />(Corrected) <br />"The ordinances of the City of South Bend, and the roggulations providing for the <br />disposal of garbage require that the garbage be fed to hogs. For this reason the <br />garbage should consist solely of the refuse from table use, and should be absolutely <br />free from glass, dishware and rubbish." <br />"If it is considered desirable to wrap the garbage, use the minimum of paper nece- <br />ssary for that. purpose." <br />"Please co-operate with the city officials in observance of these rules." <br />"BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND" <br />
