REGULAR MEETING January 22, 2018 <br /> Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the <br /> Council Chambers of the County-City Building on Monday, January 22,d 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The <br /> meeting was called to order by Council President Tim Scott and the Invocation (John P. White At-Large <br /> OTHERS PRESENT: <br /> Kareemah Fowler City Clerk <br /> Jennifer Coffman Chief Deputy Clerk <br /> Bianca Tirado Deputy Clerk <br /> Graham Sparks Clerk Executive Assistant <br /> Bob Palmer Council Attorney <br /> REPORT FROM THE SUB-COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br /> Councilmember Karen White made a motion that the minutes of the December 11 th, 2017, <br /> January 2nd, 2018, and January 81h, 2018 meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file. <br /> Councilmember Gavin Ferlic seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) <br /> ayes. <br /> SPECIAL BUSINESS <br /> There was no special business. <br /> REPORTS OF CITY OFFICES <br /> Representing the City Administration: Mayor Pete Buttigieg <br /> Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of the City of South Bend, IN, stated, I appreciate the chance to be with <br /> you. I was not able to join at the first meeting of the year so this is my first chance to wish the <br /> Council well. I am looking forward to a good 2018 with you. I just got back from the King <br /> Center as there was a vigil for the student from Washington High School who was killed. We <br /> have to make sure that this year is better than last year. We have to. There is a moral voice of the <br /> community that is pretty clear about three (3)things that, I would like to think, we are all unified <br /> around. First, this has to stop. We all know and say that, but we have to keep finding ways to <br /> keep saying and repeating it. The second is that if anybody knows anything about this shooting <br /> or any other shooting, they need to share what they know with the community. That is true in <br /> every case, especially homicides and other serious crimes. That is one (1)of the reasons there is <br /> increased attention and encouragement toward Community Policing.
