These properties are now up for bid on the County Commissioner's tax sale list. Staff feels purchasing these properties from the tax sale will allow for much lower costs in the acquisition process. Four of these parcels are vacant lots. Staff has not been able to locate their owners. Two of the four are in the Oliver Plow retention basin expansion project area. The other two are in the Indiana Avenue / Taylor Street acquisition area approved by the Commission last fall. The fifth property, on South Michigan Street, is a property that was added when the Commission was trying to clean up this area, but was never purchased. This lot has a dilapidated building on it, and is an eye sore to the area. The Commission owns the two adjacent properties north of this parcel, and an additional parcel two lots further north. Staff feels if we can get this property at little cost, it would facilitate the clearing of this property, and add value to the neighborhood. Since these properties are already on the Area's acquisition list, staff requests approval to take the necessary steps to register and bid on those parcels, in a not to exceed amount of $50,000.
