Mlin= <br />utes of meeting held Tuesday, November 29th., 1932, read and. approved. <br />The Hoard approved the renewal certificate for the Excavation Bond in <br />favor of Arthur V. leye r in the surf_ o f 1,000.00 signed and executed by I-assachusetts <br />Ponding and Insurance Compmzy. <br />The Board signed the following contract with The VanTrump Testing <br />Laboratory for the year 1933. Hoard of Public Works <br />South Bond, Indiana. <br />Gentlemen: <br />We hereby offer to test and inspect, in a thorougt,_ly intelligent and <br />sdientific manner, the asphalt paving awarded during the year 1933, on the following <br />basis :- <br />1. TiVe agree to p 1- ce an experienced asphal t inspector at the Contra ctor! s <br />paving plant during the progress of the work, for the. purpose of testing and inspect- <br />ing the various ingredients and to supervise the proportioning and mixing of same into <br />the finished paving mixtures . No mixtures will be re zm i tt ed to leave th ep lant unless, <br />in the opinion of the inspector, -they are entirely suitable to met the traffic, climatip an <br />and foundation conditions of the thoroughfate to be paved. . <br />2. One of the principals of our organization will make periodical <br />visits to your work, the first visit to be mad-e about the time of starting the asphalt <br />plant, to personally regulate and standardize the various ingredients, and subsequent <br />visits at fairly regular intervals during the progress of the work. <br />3. We agree to m�7''-e cure f'ul analyses of the raw mat erial,s before 'I <br />permitting same to be used in your work, rejecting such materials as are unsuitable f <br />for your purpose anad sending.copies of all tests to your Engineer. <br />4. 'doe r-i ll analyze .daily samples of the asphalt -c-ement and the t <br />!i <br />finished paving_ mixtures for ever7T day the asphalt plant As in operation on your work, ;! <br />sending copies of all the analyses simult,: neously to your Engineer and to our plant <br />inspector for their mutual guidance and to compl et e your records in case of some future <br />criticism of the work. <br />5. e agree to assist your Engineer in the preparation or modification <br />of your asphalt specifications, if he so desires. . <br />6. We agree to assist the Contractor in the selection of the materials <br />most suitable for your projects, analyzing in advance of his ordering same such samples <br />as are submitted to us by the Contractor cFr by your Engineer i-Ath that object in view. <br />This prevents the Contractor from ordering materials that may later be found to be <br />unsatisfactory for your work. <br />7. ale agree to make fareful analyses of the samples of Refined' <br />asphalt and Fluxing oil submitted with the bids of the Contractors, advising your <br />Engineer as to which materials comply with your specifications or are otherwise sat- <br />isfactory for your purposes. <br />8. We agree to assist your Engineer ih every possible way toward the <br />success of the improvemn.ts, offering such personal advice as he may desire with <br />reference to the proper laying of the mixtures on the street, etc.- Our experienced <br />pl.at.t inspector will also be instructed to assist your Engineer, when so requested, <br />with the street end of the asphalt work, so long as sane does not:interefere with his <br />proper functioning at the plant. <br />9. =Ve agree to furnish our p 1L.nt inspector with the ne eessary testing <br />apparatus for the proper control of the ingredients; gradings, temperatures, consist- <br />encies,, etc. He vri11 also be provided ulth p rinted di agrams, upon wh ich he will report <br />each day the exact 1oc at ion of the work laid that day, toge ther with the number of <br />square yards constructed, the number of loads of material sent to the street and the <br />weight of same, thus supplying your Engineer with the correct tonnage of material used <br />in your asphalt work an(" keeping close check on the thickness of the finished pavement, <br />etc. <br />10.
