The Indiana Fire Code allows for the presence of <br />recreational fires and open burning, and provides that the Fire Chief may <br />order that the fire be extinguished if it is hazardous or poses a health <br />or safety risk. City offices often receive calls on recreational fires <br />that may be harmful to nearby persons or property. Adding such a <br />provision to the South Bend Municipal Code would assist citizens seeking <br />information and would assist the Fire Department in keeping the City's <br />neighborhoods safe and peaceful. <br />Either Fire Prevention Chief Federico Rodriguez or I will present <br />the bill, and Ann -Carol Nash of the Legal Department will be available to <br />address any questions of the Health and Public Safety Committee.
