DEvan.il <br />A letter was received from the City Plan Commission recommending the vacation of Belleville Center Street <br />from Western Avenue to Washington Street and it was referred to the Engineering Department for further <br />investigation and preparation of a Vacation REsolution. <br />) . <br />Bendix Products Division of Bendix Aviation Corporation submitted to the Board, Schedule Bond No. F-31241'� <br />by the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York, indemnifying the City6f South Bend, Indiana and any <br />unathorized act or ommission by the Special Police Officers' -employed by Bendix Products Division of Bendix; <br />Corporation. Accepted and placed on file. <br />A representative of the American Legion Post requested permission to place a booth in front of Robertson's <br />Department store for their Blue Crutch Sale on the 19th day of January, 1957. Permission granted. <br />Mrs. Gertrude Rusk, 1518 North Oak Road, appeared before the Board on behalf of the American War Mothers <br />(Chapter 28) with reference to requesting permission to conduct their annual Carnation Sale on Friday and; <br />Saturday, May 3 and May 41 1957. Permission granted. <br />i • <br />Traffic Engineer, Ernie Miller, reports the installation of the following traffic signs: <br />I <br />Stop signs on Wayne Street at Greenlawn, southwest corner. <br />Stop signs on Sunnyside at Belmont, southeast corner. <br />Stop signs on Sunnyside, northwest corner at Bronson Street. <br />Stop sign on Sunnymede Street, Southwest corner at Greenlawn Avenue. <br />Stop sign on northeast_ corner of Donald Street at Gertrude Street. <br />i <br />Callix E. Miller, Architect -Engineer submitted to the Board Project No. 5602, Specifications for Fire <br />Station Number Fourteen (14) for the City of South Bend, to be located at the intersection of Altgeld <br />Street, Twyckenham Drive and York Road. Notice to bidders with reference to said Fire Station will be • <br />published on the 18th day of January, and the 25th day of January,1957 and bids will be received on the <br />llth day of February, 1957. <br />A letter was submitted to the Board by Judge Olczak with reference to his request that the Board take intro <br />consideration the possibility of having the traffic signal lights in the vicinity of churches and schools <br />in our City operated mechanically so that such lights could be arranged that the lights will change not <br />from red to green directly, but will do so indirectly through the intermediate color of yellow or orange.�J <br />Letter is hereby referred to the Traffic Engineering Department, and the Traffic Engineer is hereby autho!s- <br />ized to report back to the Board on the 28th day of January, 1957. <br />Messrs. Dick Nance and Bob Batters appeared before the Board on behalf of the Indiana Bell Telephone Co. <br />to request permission to replace the 2 present telephone booths at the corner of Main And Washington Sts.':.! • <br />with 1 new modern booth. Permission granted. Further, said Compan y requests permission to place a teldr <br />phone booth in front of the Telephone Company, 307 S. Mains Street. Latter request taken under advisemen <br />and report will be given at the regular meeting on the 2*h day of January, 1957. <br />Mr. Richey Whitesell, Bendix Corporation, appeated before the Board with reference to his report on the <br />progress of noise control at said Corporation. Matter will be continued for 1 month and definite report <br />will be given tt the regular meeting of the Board on February 28, 1957. <br />Bernie Bauers appeared before the Board on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America with referenceto request <br />permission to use the Central , #89 #9, #10, and #13 for Boy Scout elections. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 A.M. (CST). <br />The time now being 10:30 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Painting of the Interior of the <br />City Hall were opened. Proofs of publication were submitted to the Board from the South Bend Tribune <br />with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengodd and from the Record with an affidavit signed by W. DeCanio j <br />and found sufficient. The single bid received reads as follows: <br />I. W. Lower Company, Inc.
