483 <br />MAY 289 1956 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on Monday, May 28, 1956 at 10:00 A.M <br />(DST). All members were present. Salary claims in the total amount of $38,016.38 were approved. Approval on said assessment roll will be held up until the assessment roll is <br />corrected by the lots being broken down individually which are owned by the Esther Manufacturing Company <br />and the School City of South Bend. <br />Mr. Stamm of the Knights of Pythias appeared before the Board with reference to requesting permission'; <br />to park l bus and l elephant on June 69 1956 in the 200 block of S. Michigan Street to sell tickets for th <br />• Hagen Brothers Circus to be held at Playland Park. Proceeds for charity. Permission granted subject to sul- <br />mitting to the Board liability insurance. ! <br />Mr. Verner L. Lane, Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board with reference.to the remonstrace <br />of Frank Eazsol and Mary Eazsol with reference to the issuance of a moving permit to Gordon Link for the <br />placing of a house on Lot 230 in Kaley's Thirk Addition. The Board now authorizes the Clerk to notify sai; <br />Frank and Mary Eazsol to appear before the Board for a hearing on the 4th day of June, 1956 at 10:00 A.M. <br />(DST) with reference to same. Also, the Clerk of the Board is directed to send a letter to owners of the ` <br />lot at 1217 S. Bend Avenue and 677 LaPorte Avenue to appear for a hearing to be held on June 4th with ref- <br />erence to failure to condemn building on said property at the request of the Building Commissioner. <br />i Al Zack appeared before the Board with reference to request permission to hold a dance on the 5th dayl <br />of June at Leeper Park. Permission granted subject to the approval by the Park Board of the City of South' <br />Bend. <br />i Mr. Amon, of 726 Beale Street appeared before the Board with reference to a complaint of the dust con; <br />dition on said street due to speeding of motorists. The Board now authorizes that the Police Department <br />patrol the area for a period of one week to check on the cars. <br />William S. Moore submitted to the Board his report on the tabulation of the bids for the Olive Street <br />Improvement from Western Avenue to Washington Street, under Contract B. It was mentioned at an earlier <br />date that under Contract B, most of the surplus materials will be hauled to the Sanitary Land Fill. The <br />tabulation of William S. Moore shows the bid of Rieth-Riley Construction Company to be the lowest and best <br />bid with the total price of $61,391.20. Therefore, the Board now approves the awarding of the contract to <br />said Rieth-Riley. <br />A petition for the vacation of the north and south alley between FalconStreet and Kenmore Street runn <br />from Jefferson Street north to Washington Street; the north and south alley between Kenmore Street and <br />Wellington Street running ffon Jefferson Street north to Washington Street; and the east and west alley, <br />i between Jefferson Street and Washington Street running from Wellington Street east to Falcon Street was <br />submitted to the Board and referred to the City Planning Commission for investigation and report. <br />I <br />! The Assessment roll on. the Alley between Michigan And Main Streets from Marion to Madison Streets, <br />Ij under Resolution No. 2797 was approved by the Board. <br />Contractor's bonds were approved for W. D. Ruffner, Willis C. Divine, and Russell Platz. <br />• Permission is granted to Black & Anderson Construction Company for an occupancy permit on St.;peter <br />and Madison Streets while construction on the St. Joseph Hospital Building. Verner L. Lane will be notif <br />j of said permit. <br />A letter was sent to Russell Kuehl with reference to.a letter from the Sollitt Construction Company <br />to the City of South Bend of the acceptance by the City to pay the amount of $100,000 for some minor work <br />to be completed at the Sewage Treatment Plant. <br />Stop signs were instilled at the following locations: <br />i Bowman Street, both sides, at St. Joseph Street <br />Jacob Street, both sides, at Corby Street <br />• Dale Street, both sides, at Ewing Street <br />Northwest corner of Vernon Street at Altgeld Street <br />No Parking This Side signs were installed on the east side of Lebanon Street from Indiana to Broadway <br />
