The Board, being assured of ample indemnification against personal injury
and
property damage, granted the request.
The Board next examined affidavit for Taxi -cab License of Ralph A. Haisley,
referred the affidavit to Chief of Police R. J. Gillen for investigation and report, and.,
set the date of Monday, November 14, 1955, at 11:00 A. M. for a public hearing in the
matter. Mr. Haisley, being present, was so informed.
A report received from the Police Department concerning the complaint of Mrs. Lisa;
Skillern, 1014 E. Fox Street, about lack of sidewalk on the west side of Fellows Street
along the property occupied by the old Birdsell Manufacturing Company Plant, was next
given consideration. The Board was in unanimous agreement that proper sidewalk should
be constructed and maintained at this location and directed the Clerk to notify property;;
owner to provide sidewalk at this site.
The Board next considered plans and specifications for the construction of the
Healthwin Hospital Sanitary Sewer, from the hospital to the Sewage Treatment Plant, and
directed that the Board of County Commissioners be informed as follows:
"This Board tentatively approves these plans and kindly requests that
you advertise fcm bids for the construction of the sewer, to be made upon '
the following basis:
1. For the construction of a 10-inch sewer, as shown by the
plans, from Cleveland Road south to the point of entry
to the plant.
2. For the construction of a 21-inch sewer over the same area;
to be advertised as Alternate A.
It is our feeling that in order to provide for future expansion in the
geographical -area of the sewer, that long .range planning would call
for a 21-inch sewer, and the City of South Bend would assume and pay
the difference in cost between a 10-inch sewer and a 21-inch sewer
through its sewage treatment program.
When the bids are received, it can then be determined what the City's
obligation will be for the oversizing of the sewer from 10-inch to
21-inch, from Cleveland Road south to the point of entry, which is a
distance of 2200 feet."
A petition, dated October 25, 1955, calling for the vacation of the north and
south alley at the rear of Lots Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4, Guildfoyle and Curtis Addition in
the 600 block of North Olive Street in South Bend, Indiana, was next examined and
referred to the City Planning Commission.
Insufficient time having elapsed to receive returns to indicate
;;desired by the property owners concerned in the improvement of Fremont
;;constructing of pavement, the Board deferred the awarding of contract
type of pavement
Street, by
accordingly.
The Excavation Bond of Arthur C. Rogers, in the amount of $1,000.00, was examined
;and approved by the Board.
•
•
0
0
•
