<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public ixorks was held Monday, September 61 1955,
<br />at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and
<br />approved. Salary claims, in the total amount of $38,749.50, were approved. Claims of

<br />First appeared before the Board., two youths, requesting the barricading of the
<br />dead-end block of Esther Street, commencing at 8:30 P.M., Wednesday, September 7, for
<br />the purpose of holding a street dance for college -age young people. Before granting
<br />permission, the Board requested approval be obtained from every resident of the block,
<br />and upon the securing of such approval, authorization for the dance and barricading of
<br />the block may be granted by Chief of Police R. J. Gillen.
<br />The Board then examined a petition, dated September 1, 1955, for the construction
<br />of a local sewer under the Barrett Law plan to serve Lots 373, 374 and 375 Woodlawn
<br />Addition, on Woodlawn Boulevard, from Inglewood Boulevard to the manhole in front of
<br />;Lot 372 Woodlawn Addition, and referred this petition to the City Engineer for investi-
<br />gation and report.
<br />Then appeared before the Board, Mr. Ernest Borror, requesting permission for three
<br />Air Force exhibits to be parked in front of the Federal Building, Court House, and
<br />City Hall, from Friday evening, September 16, to Sunday morning, September 18, in con-
<br />junction with the Kiwanis Clubs. Annual "Newsboy Day" activity, Saturday, September 17.
<br />''Mr. Borror also requested permission for an Air Force Helicopter exhibition and demonstrar
<br />tion being provided by General Twining, together with the downtown exhibits, as an Air
<br />'Force cooperative effort with the Kiwanis Club on September 17. The Board granted
<br />(approval for the exhibits and helicopter demonstration, as outlined by Tdr. Borror.
<br />The Board next examined and approved plans for pavement improvement, MacArthur Avenue;
<br />from Rockne Drive to Lot 9 in Edison Park Second Addition, and Delano Avenue - Victory
<br />Avenue Sheet No. 1 and Sheet No. 2; and street improvement, Chimes Boulevard from Mac-
<br />Arthur Avenue to Edison Road, as submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, Civil
<br />Engineers.
<br />The Board then examined, approved and entered into a contract by and between the
<br />City of South Bend and Clyde E. Williams &_Associates in connection with all engineering
<br />work to be involved in the proposed improvement of Eisenhower Avenue, from Crosby
<br />Avenue to Delano Avenue and the improvement of Crosby Avenue from Benedict Avenue to
<br />Eisenhower Avenue, as set forth in Division A and Division B of said contract.
<br />Contract for engineering services was next examined and entered into between the
<br />City of South Bend and William S. Moore, Civil Engineer, in connection with the improve-
<br />ment of Ewing Avenue from Michigan Street to Franklin Street, including the repair of
<br />present foundation, where necessary, and the resurfacing of paving -roadway of said
<br />Ewing Avenue.
<br />Agreement was next examined and entered into, between the City of South Bend, and
<br />Bernard C. OtNeill, in the matter of the appraisal and securing of grants of right-of-
<br />way, involving eighteen (18) parcels of real estate on the east side of Olive Street,
<br />between Linden and Washington Street, for the purpose of widening and improving Olive
<br />Street. .H

<br />For the improvement of Delano Avenue - Victory Avenue under Improvement Resolution
<br />No. 2815, 1955, adopted September 6, 1955 from Corby Street to Victory Avenue and from
<br />Victory Avenue to MacArthur Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Type 3 Pavement.
<br />After hearing all persons interested who appeared and being fully advised on the
<br />premises and the Clerk of the Board having shown proofs of publication of the notices to
