X i <br />R <br />July 5, 1955 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Tuesday, July 5, 1955, at <br />10:00 A. M. Mr. J. A. Bickel was absent. Minutes of the previous meeting <br />were read and <br />approved. Salary claims in the amount <br />of $38,254.39 were approved. Worley, D.V.M. <br />20.00 <br />First appeared before the Board, Anna Burnham, secretary to Pastor Alex Karsas of <br />The Samaritan Army, in the matter of soliciting funds from the public to start a church. <br />Miss Burnham was advised by the Board that any solicitation of funds on the public <br />streets for any purpose is forbidden. <br />Then appeared a representative of the U. S. Air Force, requesting permission to <br />exhibit a twelve -foot radio -controlled airplane at 118 ',Nest Jefferson Boulevard, for a <br />.period of only two days. Approval was granted with the stipulation that no commercial <br />advertising is to be connected with the exhibit. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, was present and discussed with the Board <br />matters pertaining to his department. <br />The Board next examined agreement between the City and The State 'Highway Department) <br />concerning the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Arnold Street and <br />Western Avenue. Agreement was found in order and the Clerk was directed to provide the <br />Traffic Engineer with one copy. <br />The Board next considered and authorized permission for the annual St. Casimer's <br />parish festival, in accord with Rev. C. J. Wituckits letter dated July 1, 1955• <br />A petition, dated June 23, 1955, calling for the paving of Dundee Street, was <br />referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report. <br />The Board next approved and authorized the release of Purchase Order BW8010 to <br />provide an Atlas and Plat Book of St. Joseph County for the Building Commissionerts <br />office, at the cost of 235.00. <br />The Board then examined and approved the request of Sollitt Construction Co., Inc. <br />dated June 23, 1955, for the appointment of Albert Harker to be sub -contractor to the <br />Midland Engineering Company, lathing and accoustical ceiling, sub -contractor, to Sollitt <br />Construction Co., Inc. <br />It now being 10:00 A. M. C.S.T., the advertised time for the opening of bids, <br />announcement was so made, and the Board proceeded with the following results <br />GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., <br />110 N.
