• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />The request of Mrs. Elmer Webster, President of American. War Mothers, for permit <br />to sell memorial carnations on the downtown streets, for the date of Saturday, May 7, <br />1955, was granted by the Board. <br />The Board was then consulted in the matter of supplying water and fuel oil for <br />Hose House No. 3, 219 N. Hill Street, now used exclusively as radio communications <br />center, and for storage purposes, and under the supervision of Ira Hunsberger, <br />Superintendent of the Electrical Department. The Clerk was directed to charge these <br />requirements to the proper appropriation set up for this type of expense under the <br />Board of Public Works and Safety, budget for 1955, until further advised. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, discussion then was taken up <br />on the condition of the Bartlett Street paving, and the probable additional duration <br />of the detour at the North Pumping Station due to the construction of lift station in <br />North Michigan Street at this location. The decision reached was that of calling <br />upon the Traffic Engineer for a change -over in the traffic pattern, to be made effective <br />as soon as possible, pending receipt of the Traffic Engineer►s recommendation which is <br />to be placed in the hands of the City Civil Engineer, with the least possible delay. <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2795 - 1954 <br />After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the Clerk of the Board of <br />Public works and Safety having proofs of publicatiDn of notices to property owners and <br />the same having been found sufficient, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, <br />±Indiana, that the Primary or preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the <br />'27th day of December, 1954, for the improvement of ROCKNE DRIVE from Chimes Boulevard <br />to MacArthur Avenue by constructing a Class "C", Type 3 Bituminous Concrete (AH). <br />.,Pavement be and the same is in all things confirmed. <br />R. Crothers <br />,!Clerk of the Board <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: <br />Attention was called to the need of two additional two-way three -section traffic <br />signal heads, and the Clerk was directed to proceed with the purchase of this equipment.,: <br />The Board approved the following traffic sign installations: <br />YIELD RIGHT OF WAY sign on northwest corner of Arthur at Chalfant Street <br />STOP sign on southeast corner of Arthur Street at Chalfant Street. <br />Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, being present, placed with the Board his report <br />on consultations held with reference to the request of South Bend Parking Lot Company <br />for changes in parking lot east of Michigan Street, between Washington and Colfax Avenue.` <br />Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved for the <br />following: <br />Norman W. Collmer <br />Jos. M. Hiznay <br />Abe N. Medow <br />C. S. Randolph <br />W. W. and W. P. Sibley <br />Edmund L.
