<br />City Civil -Engineer, R. S. Adrysiak, being presan.t, brought to the attention of the!
<br />!Board, his departmentts need for a new motor vehicle, trading in a 1946 Chevrolet pick-
<br />iup truck, to bring the cost within the amount of funds available. The Board directed
<br />the Clerk to proceed to advertise for bids for a station wagon to fill the Engineering
<br />IDepartmentts current needs.

<br />j Next appeared before the Board, Mr. Donald B. Medow, representing Ben Medow, Inc.,
<br />tasking permission for the use of a mobile searchlight to be located at the curb
<br />• ;immediately in front of their automobile showroom at 222 N. LaFayette Boulevard, for
<br />�Ithe nights of November 17, 18, 19 and 20th inclusive. In view of having granted per-
<br />mission for similar use of this type of equipment on LaFayette Boulevard, within recent
<br />!weeks, the Board granted approval of this request.

<br />The Board next examined the report of the Microfilm Committee, dated October 29,
<br />1954, and bearing the signature of Robert L. Huff, Chairman. Mr. Huff, being present,
<br />the matter was then discussed in considerable detail and tentative decision made relati
<br />to the operating supervisor, and the probable location of the "micro -filming room".
<br />The Board then directed the Clerk to proceed with the required advertising.
<br />i� A letter was received from the City Planning Commission recommending the vacation
<br />I'of the 14 foot alley immediately east of and adjacent to Lot No. 225 in the Third Plat
<br />of Northwest Addition, from the South line of Rose Street to the first east and west
<br />alley south of Rose Street, and also the 7 foot alley immediately south of and adjacent
<br />j to lot 225 in the Third Plat, from the east line of Cushing Street east two -hundred
<br />fifty four feet, and this was referred to the Engineering Department for further con-
<br />sideration.
<br />The Board next examined a letter received from the City Planning Commission regard
<br />petition for vacation of alley in Swygart's Fifth Additl6n.. As the description in the
<br />petition failed to correspond with the plat submitted, the Clerk was directed to inform
<br />Mrs. Brambert that it will be necessary to go over this matter further with a view to
<br />arriving at an understanding between the petitioners and the Chairman of the Planning
<br />Commission to eliminate possibility of error in vacating the desired area.
<br />The Board then examined contract agreement signed at the previous regular meeting
<br />of the Board, pertaining to the selecting and naming of Engineer Wm. S. Moore, as
<br />civil engineer in connection with certain construction and repairs onddaijjv��ii e Ironwoo
<br />Bridge, and directed that said contract be made immediately effective-bynone signed
<br />copy to Engineer Wm. S. Moore, and including contract as a part of the minutes of this
<br />meeting, to -wit:
<br />THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this lst day of November, 1954,
<br />by and between the MUNICIPAL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THROUGH ITS
<br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, hereinafter called party of the first
<br />part, and WILLIAM S. MOORE, Civil Engineer of South Bend, Indiana,
<br />hereinafter called Party of the second part,

<br />That, Party of the first part hereby selects and employs party of the second
<br />part, William S. Moore, as civil engineer to prepare drawings, plans and
<br />specifications and contractural document and to supervise the construction
<br />and making of certain repairs on and to the Ironwood Bridge across the
<br />St. Joseph River in the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana,
<br />upon and subject to the following terms, conditions and agreements:
<br />(1) Party of the second part agrees to prepare all drawings, plans, speci-
<br />fications and all contractural documents for all necessary repairs on said
<br />Ironwood Bridge in the City of South Bend, Indiana, in a skillful and
<br />workmanlike manner, pursuant to the instructions of the members of said
<br />Board of Public Works and Safety of said City; and to furnish an original
<br />and six (6) copies of all such plans, drawings and specifications to
<br />said Board.
<br />(2) Upon the letting of the contract by said Board for the repairs on
<br />said bridge under said plans, drawings and specifications party of the
<br />second part shall supervise and inspect the work that is being done by
<br />the contractor; and shall supervise and inspect the materials furnished
<br />and to be used in the repairs of said bridge, said time of inspection and
<br />supervision to begin with the commencement of said work and to continue
<br />to the completion thereof, to the end that the work of repair shall be
<br />done in a first-class and workmanlike manner_ and in accordance with the
<br />plans, drawings and specifications prepared therefor by seennd party;
<br />and party of the second part shall have the authority and power to in-
<br />%struct and direct the contractor as the work progresses.
<br />(3) Part of the first -'part agrees to pay to party of the second part,
<br />as and for full compensation for his services as engineer under this
<br />contract, the sum of Twelve Hundred and Forty ($1240.00) Dollars for
<br />the drawings, plans and specifications; and the sum of Five Hundred
<br />and sixty ($560) dollars in addition for the inspection and super-
<br />vision of the work while such repairs are being carried out, or a
<br />Mat compensation of Eighteen Hundred ($1800.00) dollars, one-half
<br />() of which sum shall -Ue paid when the plans, drawings and specifications
