<br />The Board first examined proof of service of notice on Johnson Oil Refining Company,
<br />,Harold Wierich and Matina and Magdaline Paulos, pertaining to damages by reason of
<br />taking of easement rights and property interests for the,construction of sewage river
<br />,crossings and lift stations, and found these papers to be in order. The Board on its
<br />;own motion, continued the hearing and date for the filing of remonstrances by the parties
<br />inamed above to the next regular meeting,of the Board, Tuesday, September 7, 1954 at
<br />10:00 A.M. CST.

<br />The Board then examined and approved drawing submitted by Edison Park,Inc.,
<br />illustrating area to be vacated for the purpose of providing a 10 foot public walkway
<br />between Lots 314 and 315, and between Lots 333 and 334, and to provide a 14'foot public
<br />Talley between Lots 328, 329,330 and 331, all in Edison Park Addition.

<br />The Board then examined and approved Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 of two drawings of McKjnley
<br />;Terrace Addition, Section B, certified by Engineer W. S. Moore, under date of August
<br />25, 1954
<br />A petition, dated August 20, 1954, to vacate Garland Road from the west line of
<br />Caroline Street to the west line of the recorded plat of Twyckenham Hills Addition,
<br />Section "G" , was examined and referred to the City Plan Co -mission.
<br />The Board next examined and approved Contract Supplement No. 6, dated August 13,1954
<br />,pertaining to Contract No. 11-52-137, Sollitt Construction Company, Inc., Contractor.
<br />In response to request to appear before the Board, Mr. Robert Ham then presented
<br />himself, and discussion of the status of junk yard at the southeast corner of Sample and
<br />lFellows Street ensued.- Petition for removal of junk yard was shown, and it was con-
<br />ceded that this property, in an area zoned Heavy Industrial, has been.used for this
<br />purpose over a. period of tire..exceeding that of .the time of residence of more than one -
<br />,half i f the petitioners. Clty.Attorney, I. A. Hurwich, being present, advised 14r. Ham
<br />i thatntis compliance with the City, Ordinance governing operation of junk yards, by
<br />',erecting the required fencing, and by securing a Scrap Dealers license, the situation
<br />;will then be covered to the satisfaction of the Board.
<br />STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, was present and took up with the Board matters
<br />pertaining to his department. Discussion was given the matter of discouraging the
<br />;current practice of fishermen parking their cars in the alley in rear of 833 Angela
<br />'Boulevard, West, also to the immediate repair of protective fencing along river bank
<br />';on Lincoln Way East.

<br />Public Works and Safety having . proofs of publication of the notices to property owners
<br />and the same having been found sufficient, therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />;Indian a,.that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the
<br />116th day of August, 1954, for the improvement of South Lake Street by construction a
<br />'4" Cement Sidewalk be and the same is in all things confirmed.
