212
Next appeared before the Board, Mr. Floyd Jessup, representing the Granada Theatre,
requesting permission to park a truck in front of the theatre, carrying a free Eqyptian
exhibit, on August 4th. The Board refused permission, both for the reason of avoiding
setting a precedent, and because of the serious congestion likely to be added to the
heavy traffic of that area of the downtown district, and suggested that the Granada
obtain space for the exhibit at a nearby parking lot.
Mr. Max Jacobs then appeared before the Board and presented blueprint showing an
over -hanging canopy to be constructed at 631 Lincolnway East. The Board examined the
•
blue -print and finding no objectionable or hazardous features in the proposed con-
struction.. granted approval.
The Board next examined a petition, signed by several of Phe home -owners of Joyce
Drive and Lagoon Court and carrying also motion of referral by Councilman Niezgodski,
seconded by Councilman Bestle, of the Common Council. Inasmuch as the area for which ;
stringent policing is required, in accordance with an explanatory letter accompanying
the petition, is an area eventually destined for park purposes, and inasmuch as the
Department of Public Parks is agreeable to assuming jurisdiction over the area at this
time, the Boad recommended that steps be taken immediately for this transfer of
authority over this particular area of city -owned property. This strip of land, presentl
being nominally in the control of the StreetDepartment, Street Commissioner, H. M.
•
Tomlinson was directed to proceed with the required negotiations with Superintendent
Ralph Newman of the Department of Public Parks. The Board advised Street Commissioner
Tomlinson that the legal aspects of the transfer are to be handled by the attorney for
i
the Department of Public Parks.
A petition, dated August 2, 1954, to vacate the alley between the1300 and 1400
blocks, between East Sunnymede Avenue and East Wayne Street South, was examined and
referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation and recommendation.
j
Excavatorts Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved by
the Board for Riggs & Sons Plumbing & Heating Company of Mishawaka, and the Taylor
Construction Company.
•
The Board next examined and approved Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.ID
for the following contractors: -
Ernest J. Lee
Kenneth McIntyre and Ray Jones, d/b/a
McIntyre & Jones
H. F. Reading
Luther Wing Rimer
Taylor Construction Co.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned) •
at 11:30 A.
