<br />The Board first examined letter from McNamara Motor Express, Inc., and directed
<br />• the Clerk to contact the property owner of the McNamara Motor Express parking area,
<br />Mr. Geo. Swiatowy, to determine what steps he is taking to remedy the existing dust
<br />condition.
<br />A petition to improve Donald Street from Chapin Street to Kemble Street, by paving,
<br />bearing date of June 15, 1954, and carrying the signatures of four property owners,
<br />was examined and referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report.
<br />The letters of the Central Labor Union, dated June 18, 1954, and the St. Joseph
<br />County Industrial Union Council, dated June 17th, were again reviewed and ordered placed
<br />on file together with a letter from the United Garment Workers Local No. 182, dated
<br />June 23, 195Z1_. All three letters pertained to and complained of the unsatisfactory
<br />• service being rendered by the bus company.
<br />ENTRY OF PETITIONS PRESENTED
<br />The Board of Public Works and Safety hereby receives and places on file the petition
<br />of John Mantyk and forty others for the improvement on SOUTH BROOKFIELD STREET, from
<br />the south line of Indiana Avenue to the north line of Prairie Avenue AND
<br />The petition of John. :",Horn and twenty-eight others for the improvement on GRANT
<br />STREET; from the center line of Indiana Avenue to the center line of Prairie Avenue AND
<br />The petition of Portage Realty Corporation and four others for the improvement
<br />on HAWTHORNE DRIVE, from the center line of lots 136 and 153 in Jefferson Heights
<br />Addition to the south line of T:°cKinley Avenue AND
<br />The petition of T,Tartin Szklarek and twenty-three others for the improvement on
<br />DUNHAM STREET, from the west line of Olive Street to the east line of Kaley Street.
<br />The above petitions were examined by the Board and referred to the City Engineer
<br />for recommendation. The City Engineer being present, made the recommendation that the
<br />petitions be granted. The Board then directed that the firm of Wilbur H. Gartner &
<br />Associates prepare general details, drawings, specifications, and preliminary improve-
<br />ment _resolutions for pavements and sewers to be constructed and the firm was so notified
<br />June 28, 1954-

<br />Certificate of Completion and Contractors Co_^-_pletion Affidavit were furnished by
<br />the civil engineer, Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, of the contract between the City
<br />of South Bend, Indiana, Owner, and the Niles Excavating Company, Contractor, for the
<br />construction of the local sewer improvement on ?NORTH ELT,ER STREET, from the center
<br />line of Elwood Avenue to the center line of Keller Street, under Improvement Resolution
<br />No. 2771, has been completed in accordance with plans and specifications for this
<br />project.

<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that the Final Estimate and Primary Assessment Roll submitted to the Board
<br />by the City Civil Engineer or his duly authorized representative on this 28th day of
<br />June, 1954, on the improvement known as the NORTH ELT,EH1R STREET LOCAL SEWER as described
<br />in Improvement Resolution No. 2771, and confirmed by said Board on April 5, 1954, be
<br />and the same is '_Hereby adopted, and the Clerk of this Board is hereby requested to
<br />give notice of the hearing of Special Benefits on said Improvement, as required by
<br />Section N. 111 or 120 of an Act entitled, "An Act Concerning municipal Corporations"

<br />• Partition panels, posts, brackets, etc. exactly as listed on Purchase Order BIV5276,
<br />for the purpose of partitioning office space in west end of second floor lobby, City
<br />Hall in the net sum of $630.00, was considered by the Board and authorization given
<br />the Clerk to release this purchase order and obtain the required material.
<br />A group of three ladies, for whom rTrs. R. L. Guentert acted as spokesman, then
<br />appeared before the Board complaining of lack of catch basins to carry off storm water
<br />in the 7eneral area of the 1600 block of Fre: ont and Bulla Streets. It was revealed
<br />that these streets are unpaved in this area, and the City Engineer, advised the group
<br />that the present time should be opportune to secure concrete paving of the two or more
<br />,unpaved streets in that area, which now present the drainage problem of which they are
<br />• registering complaint. The City Engineer further assured the group that he will make
<br />an investigation and contact and advise them in the procedures to secure such paving
<br />within a short time.
