The condition of the dry wells installed at <br />two or more locations along this street was discussed, and the Board informed the <br />property owners that additional cast iron rings will be provided by the city to property <br />owners installing additional dry wells. In the matter of storm sewers, City Engineer <br />Andrysiak informed the property owners no immediate relief is in sight, and until storm <br />sewers can be installed, good drainage will not exist in that area. The possibility of <br />improvement by the installation of a culvert was considered. Engineer Andrysiak warned <br />that the effect of such installation on other private property must be taken into <br />careful consideration. The suggestion of ditching to relieve the drainage in some <br />degree also received consideration. Engineer Andrysiak advised against installation of <br />curbs until such time as the drainage problem has been solved. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: <br />A request received by the Board for permission to open up and conduct a parking <br />lot at the corner of Bartlett and Main Streets was referred to the Traffic Engineer <br />for investigation and report. <br />A letter received from Wilmer H. Tolle, under date of May 12, 1954, concerning <br />unsatisfactory parking situation at the rear of the Poledor Building and under the <br />Colfax bridge, was referred to the Traffic Engineer for further investigation of the <br />conditions, and possible solution of the parking and traffic problem involved. <br />The Board approved the installation of S-T-O-P signs on Eclipse Street at <br />Humboldt. <br />Petition submitted by residents of Luelde Street, under date of May 15, 1954, <br />was ordered filed, the condition of which they complained, having been corrected <br />by an inspector from the City's Engineering Department. <br />The Board next examined letter, dated May loth, from .the Independent Concrete <br />Pipe Corporation, and directed the Clerk to notify this firm that the supplying of a <br />portion of the 9611 pipe by American Vitrified Products Company is approved as a <br />sub -contractor on.Contract P-5, due to the Independent Concrete Pipe Corporation being <br />unable to meet schedule of requirements. <br />A drawing, submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner and Associates, covering street <br />improvements (Benedict Avenue from Rockne Drive to Harbor Avenue) was examined and <br />approved by the Board. <br />Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved <br />!for the following six contractors: <br />'i. <br />Ronald R. Brown, Joseph C. Dylewski & Ted Dylewski, Jr. <br />Gibson Construction Company, Inc. <br />Grand Trunk_ Western Railroad Company of South Bend <br />Hilton Construction Company, Inc. <br />John J. Kromka <br />Charles B. Seitz & Edward R. Sowell, d/b/a S & S Construction Company. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was ad- <br />journed at 11:30 A.
