<br />STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, the Board reviewed the bids
<br />opened at the previous meeting to supply certain equipment for his department, and with
<br />the Commissionerts recommendation, awarded contracts, as follows:
<br />Deeds Equipment Company, - 1 Model 75A Michigan Tractor Shovel
<br />Indiana Equipment Co., - 1 International Harvester Model TD9
<br />Diesel Crawler Tractor with straight
<br />blade.
<br />Scherman-Schaus Freeman Co. - 1 1954 Studebaker Champion 2-Door Sedan
<br />1 1954 Studebaker 3/4 Ton Pick -Up Truck
<br />The Board next considered the report of Mr. Jack Beckman, concerning insecure
<br />waste can, presenting a hazard to both pedestrians and automotive traffic, and referred
<br />the matter to Street Commissioner, H.' M. Tomlinson, for proper attention.
<br />A petition, dated March 30, 1954, on behalf of the Most Reverend John Francis Noll,
<br />pertaining to an alley vacation, was referred by the Board to the City Plan Commission.
<br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2773 - 1954
<br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards
<br />of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of vacation of streets, alleys,
<br />and utility easements all in a part of Edison Park Addition, under Vacation Resolution
<br />No. 2773•
<br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
<br />the City Hall at 11:00 A. M. on the loth day of May 1954, for the purpose of hearing
<br />and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation,
<br />and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of
<br />damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing
<br />same on the 16th day of April, on the 23rd day of April and on the 30th day of April
<br />1954, in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News.
<br />The petition of Frank R. Lupa, dated April 7, 1954, for the vacation of the alley
<br />between Lot 2 of Susan M. Stokes Subdivision of B.O.L. 96 and Pulaski Park, was examined
<br />and referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation and report.
<br />Contractor's Combination Bid Bond and Bond for Construction, binding American
<br />Vitrified Products Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio, as principal and Indemnity Insurance
<br />Company of North America, as surety, in the penal sum of $15,&Z2.45, was examined and
<br />approved by the Board.
<br />Copies of Consoer, Townsend and Associates' letter to the Sollitt Construction
<br />Company, under date of April 5, 1954 and Sollitt Construction Company's letter in
<br />reply, dated April 9, 1954, were read and ordered placed on file.
<br />The Board approved S-T-O-P signs installed on Main Street at Navarre Street,
<br />making this a four-way stop.
<br />A letter received by the Board from Jack Beckman, requesting permission for paint-
<br />':ing the newsstand at the corner of Main and Washington, was examined and approved. The
<br />'Clerk was directed to inform Mr. Beckman by letter of the Board's approval.
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
<br />at 11:30 A.M.
