-n <br />109 <br />L1 <br />• <br />• <br />0 <br />• <br />• <br />January 4, 1954 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, January 4, 1954s <br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting and <br />special meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the <br />amount of $719.07, were approved and ordered paid: <br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. <br />Nicholls Printery <br />STREET & TRAFFIC: <br />Julius Haverstock <br />SEWAGE DISPOSAL: <br />.36 Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. $219.60 <br />3.50 Englewood Electrical Supply Co. 14.31 <br />SANITATION: <br />15.00 Lydick Hardware, Inc. <br />53.00 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />36.73 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />25.91 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />29.67 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />26.37 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />25.91 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />25.91 <br />South Bend <br />Tribune <br />34.14 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />26.57 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />26.57 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />36.72 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />34.99 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />26.57 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />27.00 <br />Tri-County <br />News <br />30.241 <br />The matter of completing the required weather-stripping of fifty-nine double -hung <br />wood windows, eleven casement windows, and fifteen transom windows of the City Hall was <br />considered by the Board and the Clerk was directed to obtain three or more quotations <br />from metal weather-stripping contractors. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, placed before the Board report <br />of witnesses concerning a recent accident in the 2700 block West Sample Street. The <br />Commissioner was directed to retain the report for availability in the event of the <br />filing' claim or litigation in this matter. <br />Some discussion was given the needed repair of the guard railing along the river <br />bank on Lincolnway East. The City Engineer, together with the Street Commissioner will <br />make an ton the site' inspection of the project to determine whether the work is to be <br />undertaken with Street Department labor, or if it would be best to have this major <br />repair job performed by a private contractor. <br />The painting of the quonset buildings on the department's premises at 714 N. Niles <br />Avenue, was considered and deferred, to be taken up later in -the season. <br />CEMETERY: <br />The request of Sexton Clifton Engle to have urgent tree trimming undertaken with- <br />out longer delay, taming advantage of lower cost available at this time of the year, <br />was approved by the Board. <br />Excavatorts bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved by <br />the Board for the following firms and individuals: <br />William H. Burke & Robert H. Burke <br />Anthony Kujawski & Son <br />Sibley Heating & Plumbing Co. <br />Tony Szymkowiak <br />Victor Trippel <br />Contractorts bonds, each in the sum of 1,000.00, were examined and approved by <br />the Board for the following: <br />William H. Fry <br />A petition was received from Kreamo Bakers, Inc. asking for the vacation of the <br />East and West alley between Lots Nos. 19 and 20 in Elias Rupelts Addition in the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana, more closely described as follows: Beginning at the Southeast <br />corner of Lot No. 19, thence West 124.5 feet to the Southwest corner of Lot No. 19, then <br />due South 14 feet to the Northwest corner of Lot No. 20, thence East 124.5 Feet to the <br />Northeast corner of Lot 20, thence North 14 feet to the point of beginning. This was <br />referred to the City Plan Commission for their consideration and recommendation. <br />A petition, bearing eight signatures, dated December 29, 1953, for the construction <br />of a local sewer on Lake Street, from the first alley south of Jefferson, was referred <br />to the City Engineerts office for investigation and report. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:15 A.
