<br /> A SPECIAL PROCLAMATION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br /> BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY RECOGNIZING THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE IOTA
<br /> XI SIGMA CHAPTER OF SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY, INC.
<br /> WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., is a 9o,000+ member nonprofit collegiate
<br /> sorority dedicated to the encouragement and promotion of high scholastic attainment,
<br /> community service, and improvement in the quality of life through its chapters,members, and
<br /> affiliates located throughout the United States, Korea, Bermuda,Africa, Bahamas,Canada and
<br /> the Caribbean and German, and;
<br /> WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc.was founded on November 12, 1922 by seven(7)
<br /> women educators at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, and;
<br /> WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.,through its mission seeks to address programs,
<br /> projects,and concerns that impact society educationally,socially,politically,and economically;
<br /> and
<br /> WHEREAS, The Iota Xi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc was chartered in
<br /> the city of South Bend, Indiana on November 23,2002 by the 6 charter members of Sigma
<br /> Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Kathy Bingham, Gwen Thompson, Kendra Clayton,Tracy Robison,
<br /> Tonya Spears Willis and Teri Ivory, and;
<br /> WHEREAS,the Iota Xi Sigma Chapter has sponsored local programs to align with the national
<br /> programs of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc. Programs have included Operation BigBookBag,
<br /> Youth Symposium,Project Reassurance and sponsoring our leadership affiliate group for girls
<br /> ages 12 to 18 called the Rhoer's Club, and;
<br /> WHEREAS,this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Iota Xi Sigma Chapter.
<br /> Section I.The Common Council of the City of South Bend is pleased to extend this expression
<br /> of our gratitude,congratulations and best wishes to the members of the Iota Xi Sigma Chapter
<br /> Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. on this memorable occasion.
<br /> Section II. That our residents join with me in congratulating and recognizing the members of
<br /> the Iota Xi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.,for their community service.As
<br /> such,we wish for the chapter and the sorority much success in all of their future endeavors.
