Perkey, requesting the permission of the Board to !' <br />conduct a parade Saturday, June 27th, under the auspices of Antique Car-oimers of the Midwest Area.; <br />:-oarade to form on Tutt Street, proceed north on Michigan Street to LaSalle Avenue, thence south on Main <br />Street to Western Avenue, and west on Western Avenue to the Studebaker Proving Ground. Permission ?j <br />was granted. Mr. Perkey was referred to Chief of Police Gillen in the matter of providing the parade <br />k <br />with police escort. li <br />A representative group of the local truck transport operators next presented to the Board a <br />petition for the rerouting of trucks to Chapin Street in lieu of William Street, the principal objection <br />to William Street being the low viaduct at the railroad, and low -hanging limbs on the trees of.this <br />j; residential street, whereas the Chapin Street viaduct has more clearance and the street is mainly <br />commercial. The Board took the matter under advisement for a period of two weeks to enable the Traffic <br />Engineer to make a.proper study of the situation and report his recommendations. The group also called <br />to the attention of the Board, the deteriorated and impassable condition of Sample Street. <br />Ij <br />Next appeared before the Board, Miss Virginia Kalebic, 2111 Kenwood Avenue, Mrs. B. Prentkowski, <br />1647 N. Huey Street and Mrs. M. Co 609 W. Oth Street Pishawaka reporting to the Board damage i <br />J � �� > > p g � g j <br />and injuries received in accident caused by hitting an improperly installed manhole, protruding approx- i <br />i imately eight inches above the grade of the street, by Miss Kalebic's automobile. j <br />The Board was satisfied from the testimony offered that the responsibility lay with the contractor, <br />and upon examining contractor's bond, directed the Clerk to notify the Hamilton Body Shop to proceed <br />with the repair of the Kalebic car, in accordance with their estimate presented to the Board by Miss <br />Kalebic, and informed Mrs. Prentkowski that the hospital, X4Ray and other medical bills connected with <br />this accident, involving her child and a child of Mrs. Betty Harmon of 122 E. Keasey Street, would be j <br />' subject to settlement under the bond provided by the contractor. yh <br />Mr. John Zriny- appeared eared. before the Board with complaints. The violation of parking regulations jl <br />!by Studebaker employees in the neighborhood of the Studebaker plant, and the parking situation on Ford, Ij <br />41 Orchard and Dunham Streets, 'immediately west from Chapin Street, both being matterp under the juris- <br />diction of the Traffic Engineer, Mr. Zrinyi was referred by the Board to that office. <br />'j <br />'! Gartner & Associates, having been received and examined i <br />j by the Board, in the matter of bids for the improvement of NORTH ILLINOIS STREET from the south line of <br />Washington Street to the south line of Linden Avenue in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2753, <br />�! <br />passed by this Board on April 13, 1953 and confirmed by this Board on May 18, 1953, therefore, Be It <br />it <br />4. <br />Resolved, that the Preliminary Order is,hereby, in all,things confirmed and said street ordered paved it <br />with a Class "C" - Type 1 Pavement, and the bid was awarded to Rieth-Riley Construction Company as iI <br />they submitted the lowest and best bid for Class "C" - Type 1 Pavement for the sum of $17,688.70, AND ij <br />In the matter of bids for the improvement of MISHATnrAKA-AVENUE (NORTH SIDE) from the east line of �I <br />Twyckenham Drive to the west line of Greenlawn Avenue in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2749 <br />passed by this Board on April 13, 1953, and confirmed by this Board on May 18, 1953, the bid was awarded j <br />to Rieth-Riley Construction Company as they submitted the lowest and best bid for Class "C" - Type 4A <br />Pavement for the sum of $12,146.90, AND i! <br />In the matter of the bids for the improvement of SOUTH CHICAGO STREET from the north line of <br />Western Avenue to the south line of Washington Street in accordance with Improvement -Resolution No.2750, <br />i 1953, and confirmed by this Board on May 18, 1953, the bid was awarded to Reed Construction Company., <br />Mishawaka, Indiana, as they submitted the lowest and best bid for Class "C" - Type 1, Pavement, for <br />the sum of $19,920.20., AND <br />I <br />In the matter of the bids for the improvement of NORTH CHICAGO STREET from the South line of + <br />.' Washington Street to the south line of Linden Avenue in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2752, <br />j' 1953, and confirmed by this Board on May 18, 1953, the bid was awarded to,the Reed Construction Company., <br />ij Mishawaka, Indiana, for the sum of $19,872.80. <br />I <br />Quotations received from Niles Excavating Company on the two sewer jobs (200 block S. Kenmore and <br />2200 block Kemble Avenue), and -for installation of a concrete manhole, at.the intersection of Madison I <br />jl and Sommers Streets, were examined, found to be satisfactory, and the Clerk was directed to notify this <br />firm to proceed with the work immediately. <br />Copies of Board of Zoning Appeals Decision No. 240-A were supplied to, the Board and the Clerk <br />i' directed. td provide the Street Commissioner with one copy and place one copy in the files of the Board <br />of Public Works. <br />
