<br />Wilbur H. Gartner and Associates, Civil Engineers, reported to the Board, Profiles
<br />Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications, Estimates and Preliminary Improvement
<br />Resolutions for the improvement of MISHAWAKA AVENUE (NORTH SIDE) from the east line
<br />of Twyckenham Drive to the west line of Greenlawn Avenue by constructing a Class "C"
<br />Type 4A Pavement AND
<br />SOUTH CHICAGO STREET from the north line of Western Avenue to the south line
<br />Class "Ctt Pavement AND
<br />of Washington Street by constructing a
<br />NORTH CHICAGO STREET from the south line of Washington Street to the south line
<br />of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Pavement AND
<br />NORTH ILLINOIS STREET from the south line of Washington Street to the south line
<br />of Linden Avenue by constructing a Class "C" Pavement.
<br />The Board approved the reports and -passed Improvement Resolutions, authorizing
<br />these public improvements, and the 6th day of May 1953 at the hour of 6:30 otclock
<br />P.M., Central'Standard Time is hereby fixed as the time, and the office of the Board
<br />in said City as the place, when and where all persons whose property may be affected
<br />•
<br />by such proposed improvements, may be heard as to the necessity for the same, and all
<br />petitions and remonstrances received, and'the Board will on said day, decide whether
<br />the benefits accruing to"abutting and adjacent property, and to the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, will be equal to or exceed the estimated cost of said improvements, The Clerk
<br />of the Board is hereby ordered to give notice by two weekly publications, of the time
<br />and place of hearing of these resolutions; Nos. 2749, 2750. 2752 and 2753, passed by
<br />the`Board on April 13, 1953, and to be published on April 17th and April 24th, 1953.
<br />..r STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present,'brought to the attention of
<br />• the Board a broken'section of sewer tiles, at a considerable depth, in front of 129
<br />South Kaley Street, which will require services of a sewer contractor to restore. The
<br />matter was placed in the hands of the City Engineer to determine probable cost and
<br />take whatever action is indicated, without delay.
<br />The Commissioner next called to the Boardts attention the urgent need for a
<br />bulldozer of approvimately 10-ton size. Funds being available for this use, the Board
<br />directed the Clerk to proceed with the required advertising for bids.
<br />The Board next examined quotations received from four painting contractors for
<br />the painting of`the Council Chamber, Judgets Chamber, and Adult Probation Officer's
<br />office and the consensus of opinion being that I. W. Lower Company has offered the
<br />• best bid, the contract was so awarded.
<br />The Bid of Raymond Concrete Pile Company, opened at the previous regular
<br />meeting of the Board, Monday, April 62 1953, having been fully examined and found to
<br />be satisfactory, was accepted and the Clerk was directed to proceed with the proper
<br />notifications.
<br />The Board approved the placing of STOP signs on St. Peter Street at Sorin Street,
<br />and on Rush Street at Indiana Avenue.
<br />The following Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were approved
<br />by the Board:

<br />Three Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00 were approved by the

<br />• There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
<br />at 11:15 A. M.
