<br />A petition, dated February 16, 1953, for the construction of a local sewer in
<br />outh Parkway, between 901 Parkway and Meadow Lane, was referred to the City Engineer
<br />or investigation and report.
<br />A petition, dated February 20, 1953, for the construction of a -local sewer in
<br />rgreen Street, from 901 Evergreen Street to Meadow Lane, was referred to the City
<br />ineer for investigation and report.
<br />A petition, dated February 20, 1953, to vacate alley north from Ewing Avenue to
<br />the first east and west alley,'but.inadequately described by the petitioners, trustees
<br />of the Midway Gospel Tabernacle, was referred by the Board to the City Plan Commission
<br />for their approval.
<br />-Advice by letter concerning rates to be charged at new parking lot operated by
<br />South Bend Parking Co., Inc. at 120 W. Wayne Street was deferred for consideration at
<br />a subsequent meeting.
<br />Bids opened at the previous meeting to provide nevr desks for the Common Council
<br />were held in abeyance for further investigation as to suitability and acceptable price.
<br />A blueprint showing the proposed layout of Twyckenham Hills, Section 11G11, comprising
<br />a 35 acre tract south of Bnryckenham Hills Addition, which tract is now under petition I
<br />for annexation to the City, was next examined by the Board. The Board found no objection
<br />to the annexation and directed the Clerk to report accordingly to the City Plan Commission.
<br />The bid of Ben hiedow, Inc:, which was opened at the regular meeting of February 9th
<br />and which was to supply a business coupe for the Health Department; awarding of contract
<br />was again held in abeyance by the Board as no decision has been reached in the matter.
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT:
<br />The Traffic Departmentt s need for two rolls of "Scotchlite't reflective sheeting,
<br />manufactured by Minnesota Idining & Mfg. Co., and one roll of "Scotchcal" film, also
<br />produced by this manufacturer, was brought to the attention of the Board. The Clerk
<br />was directed to proceed to obtain this material at the quoted total cost of $352.20.
<br />Armour and Company's blueprint, covering a "Part First Floor Plan - New Loading
<br />;Dock", with a view to eliminating the blocking of -sidewalk by their loading and Mloading
<br />loperations, which has been a serious problem over a long period of time, was next
<br />examined by the Board. Inasmuch as these plans met with the approval of the Traffic
<br />Engineer, provided the loading zone under this arrangement will eliminate blocking of
<br />sidewalk as intended, the Board approved blueprint submitted on this same basis.
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned

<br />A Special TPieeting of the Board of Public TTorks :eras held at 2.00 P. M., Thursday,
<br />February 26, 1953, for the purpose of awarding contract for the 2�-tcn truck required
<br />by the Street Department. I. A. Hurwich ,°ras absent.
<br />The Board re-examined all bids and determined Teeter Sales t; Service, Inc., offere
<br />the truck best` meeting the requirements for the particular work for which this piece of
<br />equipment is being purchased. This fir: was accordingly a-,rarded contract to supply
<br />one G1`,TC Model 453-30, 1953 Truck, 161" wheelbase, 21,000# Gross Vehicle Weight, in
<br />exact accord with specifications shown in proposal, for the net amount of �3183.03.
<br />The Board then read a letter from Consoer, Townsend and Associates, under date of
<br />February 21, 1953, pertaining to rate studies to be conducted in connection with the
<br />revenue program for the sewage treatment project. It was the decision of the Board to
<br />authorize Consoer, Townsend and Associates to proceed with such studies under terms
<br />outlined in this letter or two and one-half times the payroll plus the cost of analysis
<br />of necessary sewage samples, or terms offered in letter of January 28; 1112 of 1%,
<br />whichever represents the lesser cost to the City of South Bend, and Consoer, Townsend
<br />and Associates are to be so notified.
