The Board examined the <br />papers, and one correction being agreed upon and effected, affixed their signatures <br />accordingly. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, was present and brought to <br />the attention of the Board the damaged condition of the sewer on Riverside Drive, near <br />Angela Boulevard. The matter was referred to the City Engineer, who is to proceed to <br />obtain quotations from local contractors for its repair. <br />Mr. Tomlinson next brought to the attention of the Board the seldom -used caterpillar <br />the old roller and old trailer, and a quantity of railroad iron on hand in his depart- <br />ment, requesting disposition. The Board suggested that the first step in the disposal <br />of this equipment and material will be its appraisal, and outlined to Mr. Tomlinson how <br />to proceed in the matter. It was also pointed out to Mr. Tomlinson that an additional <br />allowance above ceiling is permitted for "removal costs". <br />Mr. Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, outlined to the Board and Street Commissioner <br />Tomlinson,agreement reached between himself and the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. <br />whereby the Gas Company will make temporary cold asphaltic patches in instances where <br />prolonged work involving excavation in streets, must have such temporary repair to per- <br />mit flow of traffic. <br />Mr. Tomlinson called the attention of the Board to an alley in the 800 block of <br />Fairview Avenue where excessive repair costs have persisted for many years. Engineer <br />Andrysiak stated that an approximate drop of twelve feet in a distance of one -hundred - <br />twenty feet in this alley causes deep wash -outs with every heavy rain. The matter was <br />considered by the Board and authorization given the Street Commissioner to apply <br />asphaltic paving material to stop this erosion, providing the property owners involved <br />will pay the City the sum of $25.00 each. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A letter from Consoer, Townsend & Associates under date of <br />June 19, 1952, was examined by the Board. The Board then authorized Change Order No-4, <br />Contract No.2-A (rhos. D. Nolan, Contractor) to include the cost of blower, as set <br />forth in a letter dated June 11, 1952, written by Nelson Harris to Thos. D. Nolan, <br />Contractor. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2727, 1952 <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: <br />That it is desirable to vacate the following: <br />TWELVE (12 t ) FEET OFF OF THE SOUTH SIDE OF NEST <br />WOODSIDE STREET FROM THE WEST LINE OF MiAIN STREET <br />WEST THREE HUNDRED FORTY-THREE (343+) FEET TO THE <br />PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such <br />vacation: <br />Lots Numbered 84, 88, 89 and 90 of Oakside 3rd Plat, <br />owned for Edwards Iron Works, Incorporated. <br />Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 3rd day of July and on the <br />llth day of July, 1952, in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News. <br />This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 21st day of July, 1952 at 10:00 <br />A.
